So how long before things will fall off the deep end?

For me I think either # 6 or 7 before then I expect that things will continue to be on the down hill slide.

I hate to even speculate...... sometimes I think never, sometimes I think tomorrow.

Then again, depending on my mood, sometimes I'm convinced it already has.

I think that lean times are soon upon us, but total SHTF, TEOTWAKI, soon after the end of the decade.
I see our biggest threat coming from Russia and China. They are not going to continue to sit back and watch as we gorge ourselves on the worlds dwindling supply of oil. And station our troops around the last of the worlds large oil reserves.
I think they are just biding their time. If we attack Iran I fell like that will be the beginning of the end for the American Empire. Just my opinion.

And don't forget the threat from our own prostiticians as they scramble to hold on to the reins of power.

I didnt vote because I figure its to open, not to mention I have no idea. lol Basicly I figure I will deal with SHTF situations now (comeing out of an unexpected 3 months without income) and undoubtdly to varying degrees in each of the time frames listed above. At some point it may even be that the rest of the area/region/country/world may be dealing with the same situation at the same time but thats the main reason for the WAY I prep. I dont prep in a manner focused on nukes hitting us or ABC warfare or whatever, I just try to be sure we have a deep and well stocked pantry/larder and full freezers, means to replenish our food stuff without HAVEING to go to the store, minimize what we HAVE to buyor rely on others for, and make sure we are as prepaired as we can be to provide for our own security, be it against a feral dog/coyote, a thief/burglar/agressive drunk or large numbers of refugees and looters.

I figure by preping in a NON-specific maner this way and trying to keep the preps always in place, as well as liveing somewhat close to how it could be expected post SHTF (wide spread scale), then IMO we are better preped for WHATEVER comes and WHENEVER it comes than we could be if we tried to always guess what was going to be the exact problem and when and being reactive to those guesses. I guess its basicly my way of being (at least in my mind) proactive rather than reactive since we dont try to react to each new anticipated crisis because we know we can get by reguardless of which way things go.

    "Really hits the fan"....

Depends on what you're talking about... "Patriots","Dies the Fire" type shtf.... not sure I really believe it will ever get there... (guess I better duck for cover for that comment [LMAO])...

Geo-Political, Economic, financial, depression type shtf.... I actually think that's already begun, upon us and getting worse right now... [booze]

I guess at the speed of the ever present escalating multipliers in all aspects of our lives today... the soonest could be tommorrow.... and hopefully you're never really ready or hope for that... but you're prepared the best you can be.... so I'll vote tommorrow...

Look around... educate yourself... enhance your awareness of threats and opportunities.... think about your strengths and weaknesses... work on them the best you can.... "shtf" can come in all kinds of different ways... personal, local, regional, national and global.... and has a way of not being obvious to your personal situation, until you are up to your waist in it....
so before you get into that "Don't worry, be happy", go out and party hearty... do yourself a favor... ask yourself the really hard questions and think the really unthinkable... better now when you have the time and a cold beer, aspirin and a soft bed to soothe the headache you will have after you force yourself through that exercise than later when its here and real....

This question was a good start.... [beer]

    JMHO....

I have begun thinking of TEOTWAWKI as the day the grocery stores run out of food.
This econ situation can really strike fast and catch some by surprise.

A global bank run is only one heavy rumor or leaked bit of info away.
If the dollar collapses, it will be upon us. And the Fed is talking rate cuts this week.

I think we have 2 steadily worsening years ahead of us. But what do I know?

I think it that we will continue down the road that we are on. Energy prices will continue to raise and put more and more people in a downward spiral. As more people around the world see that they can't live like they have they will demand that there .govs do something. Companies will begin to fail with the higher fuel costs and this will put the economy into a tail spin. When farms no longer are able to get fuel to plant, harvest, and move their product to market. People will start to starve and riots will break out .govs will be destablized. This I believe will spark more wars for the remaining oil.

When will all of this happen? I think withen the next 10 years, some of it I believe already is happening. Personally I think we have already gotten on the slide and we are picking up steam.

As far as preping I'm in the same mind frame as Monkey Man. No matter what happens you need food, water, shelter, clothing, and a means to make sure it stays yours. Everything else is just extras.

Every night when I lay my head on my pillow, it's the end of the day as I know it. Hopefully, I wake up tomorrow and get another day. I look at preparedness this way, too.

I too believe in taking life day by day. Stock up the pantry and be prepared to fend for yourself if the stores close. But, all the food and and bags of silver coins and cans of ammo will do you no good if a nuke goes off in your area. And before anyone says it, not that many will be vaporized and not care, those are the lucky few, most people will survive a nuclear blast and be walking dead.

So I believe in running what-if scenarios and trying the best you can to prepare for any possibility.
How many here have gas masks, plastic sheeting to cover your windows, iodite tablets?
How many have learned how long radiation is active and how to de-contaminate things?

I don't believe in living in fear of anything, and I don't.

My motto is "Prepare for the worst, pray for the best."

I you're prepared you have nothing to fear.

I agree, if you lead a lifestyle that is ready for anything at all times... when "it happens" (depending upon what "it" is) it won't make much of a difference to ya as you'll already be prepared/ready to go. That's the lifestyle my family & I live.

For example we already harvest/eat wild edibles... we already have knowledge about natural healing using herbs .... we don't use man made synthetic chemical critter dewormers opting to growing our own if need be/or harvesting wild options, and so on... We've got a non-electric laundry set-up, and many non-electric manual tools which don't need electricity. (crosscut saws, scythes, hand drill, mortar & pestle, multi-purpose hand crank press (<--4 lard,fruit,cheese.. whatever tickles your fancy)and so on...)I think that for the long-run you are actually making your life easier by doing so.

BTW, a GREAT BOOK for anyone interested is:
    Juliette de Bairacli Levy's classic

THE COMPLETE HERBAL HANDBOOK FOR FARM & STABLE

This book has everything that one needs to know to maintain your critters/livestock naturally without all of the modern unnecessary
consumeristic $$$$FRAZZLE DAZZLE$$$$, as I like to call it! LOL [LMAO]

It's very realistic/practical & simplistic info. like the good ol' days... enough said.

Well now dont get me wrong, we do enjoy the modern stuff since its available now. While we have a wood stove and have cooked on it some, we cook with propane most of the time. We try to ad nonpower tools as we can but generaly will use the electric ones when we have the choice. Learn as we can to preserve food without refridgeration but keep the fridge full as well as a couple of deep freezes, and enjoy being able to pick up a lot of the stuff from the store thats quick and easy (open box, heat and serve) for times we are busy and so on.

While we do simplify a lot compared to most we also dont live as primitive as some I know.

If the dollar crashes,or when the drug restant bugs attack, or a nuke hits it will cause panic and stores to be depleted. Katrina was a preview. We know that FEMA won't be of help. Just keep preparing, and storing up. I do not want to be in a bread line in some camp.

It's hard to say when, there has to be just the right things or wrong things to happen in the same time period. A katrina mostly effects those who live in the area. the recent fires hurt those in CA. A bad flu outbreak would only hit scattered numbers, an earthquake the same, only those in the area. A dirty bomb or two in major cities, just those cities and some outlying areas. But put them together and then shtf would be a possibility. Personaly I think a "dust bowl" or depression (big) will be more likely in the next 10 years. I don't know any politicians who work for us, and if there is one he-she is in the minority so won't help much. I try to keep plenty of food, cases of canned foods and 2 freezers full of meats and vegies and 2 fridges one is outside on the porch so people can stop by and pick up eggs. I raise a few calves, pigs and chickens. Since I live in the plains or deserts of NM, you can't have a lot on 20 acres and I don't want a lot, enough to feed my family and barter some. I am as prepared as I will ever be. I do wish I could have a well drilled here, but don't have the money.

Thanks Ozark, I live outside of Tucumcari and the shallowest well I've heard of around here is about 160' most are 200' plus. I picked up a 200 gallon pressure tank the othr day at a yard sale for $25. I've washed it out real good and when I sale my pigs next month I'm going to drain the bleach water out of it into the pens, just flood it. Then I'll put it in the old boxcar and at least be able to store 200 gallons. It can't freeze out there and I will be ok for several weeks with that. I've put a cock valve on the bottom and the highth it will be off the ground will work great for flow.

I was feeling a bit worried today actually....
My first response was to look for the big mushrooms!
But, I'm NOT paranoid, and neither am I!

Seriously, I give a time span of 90-120 days.....
    Why?
I've been doing a LOT of research lately and reading, BETWEEN the lines, as I have little faith in the news media anymore.
I have some contacts on the inside of things, and they let me know whether or not to be worried.
So, I have been working VERY hard, 16+ hour days to get my "BOT" ready.....and stocked.
With 4 working on the project, it should be completed by Monday next week.
A few things left to get done, as I am: the welder, The designer, the grinder man, the painter, and the BOSS!
Already have an ample supply of water from a well, in the middle of nowhere, Arizona.
Not yet panicked, but CONCERNED, with the way things are going in the International levels.
    Stay Safe!
    Bill
