New member, survivor of several (major) earthquakes, multiple wildfires, civil unrest (LA Riots '92), minor assaults while working, economic downturns (we've all been there)....and probably other 'stuff' that was a disaster at the time but now fades with time.

There's, always, more to learn, I know. And I've got more to accomplish to get secure, 'cause 2020 has certainly been an acceleration of wild and crazy events.

Hoping to give back a bit, add to knowledge and skills a bit, and pause frequently for review of scenarios.

    Glad to be here!

Glad you joined @old_code. Sounds like you have a wealth of info. So is there one major SHTF that sticks out as the worst? Earthquake vs. riots?

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

If I had to chose a worst major SHTF......guess that it would have to be civil unrest/riots, the kind of events that cities like Portland and Seattle, and to a lesser extent here, have dealt with for extended periods. Natural disasters, wildfires, earthquakes, etc. you're either in them or hearing about them. And if you're in them, you're responding to the most appropriate priorities. And there may be no time to check media sources for evolving info; you need to act on your prepared plans.

Riots, on the other hand, I guess there's too much out of your control, and the anticipation. For example, LA Riots of '92, my (now) wife and I were in separate locations; I left, call it abandoned, my condo to head to her house. More defensible, and further away from the "bad area" (yeah, young/stupid and living near gangs. She rarely came to my place, 'cause the ambiance of razor wire on the fencing was a bit putting off). So we watched extended coverage on the TV and kept up with family to see that they were OK. Sleep was marginal, because it was a hot April/May, and the smoke in the air was a reminder.

Nothing came of it in her area, but there were some stores in my area that had smashed windows, and there were rumblings of "neighbor conflicts" finally being resolved. It was the first time that I had seen how fragile the fabric of society can be.
