Soaring Food Price Inflation Could Lead To More Global Unrest Soaring Food Price Inflation Could Lead To More Global Unrest Food prices and some scarcity have been in the news. With the Chinese food harvest 'failures' and bad weather in many other places, this should be no surprise to a well-read Monkey. The linked article, complete with a scary graph, does have some good points: "Everyone's favorite permabear, SocGen's Albert Edwards, who, unlike Goldman Sachs, is starting to worry about soaring food inflation, writes FAO Food Price Index been surging over the last few months. With the FAO food index continually rising, Edwards notes that "annual inflation in cereals reached 20%, the highest annual rise since mid-2011 when the Arab Spring was in full flow! (see chart below)." overall, inflation is - or seems to be - well under control. But this sharp spike coupled with food losses should be a point Monkeys would be wise to keep an eye upon. The money quote: "...Edwards makes his feelings clear on who ultimately was to blame for the global tidal wave in food inflation back in 2011: "Despite Ben Bernanke's denials that the Fed's QE policies caused rampant food price inflation in 2011, many economists such as myself believe that was absolutely the case." QE or quantitative easing (ie printing money and dumping it into the economy) has been dwarfed by the trillions dumped into the US money bucket over the last year. The old saw of "If you don't have it now, you won't be able to get it then" should be remembered. I would suggest this would be a good time to inventory your pantry and fill in any thin spots. While you can still afford to do this. /for your consideration/
Prices for everything are on the rise--have you looked at lumber prices never thought I would see a 2X4X8 $6.50 at the big box store. It will be interesting to see with Bidden's cozy relationship with China how much of our grain will be shipped to them driving up beef, poultry, pork, cereal and bread prices for us. We may be looking at 2020 as the good times.
China Is Making a Major Play for American Farms and Farmland from 2016 - the questions is "what haven't they bought in Big Ag - and who is next?" "In an effort to cut out the middleman, foreign buyers are trying to circumvent the American farmer. Instead of buying food from farmers who work their own land, some foreign buyers want to own and operate these American farms themselves—as well as the livestock barns and slaughterhouses. Between the 2013 purchase of pork processor Smithfield by a Chinese holding company and ChemChina’s pending $43 billion offer for the agrichemical company Syngenta, the world’s most populous country is making a major play to buy the proverbial American farm—and U.S. politicians are lending a helping hand."
And, It gets even better then this, ............................... The Illegal Chinese fishing fleet has exploded in it's size and numbers, and they are ( always have been ) expanding their long range fishing illegally into other countries waters, and there is little the rest of the world can do to stop them! It is estimated that China "owns" close to 30,000 long range fishing vessels, and that each one of them can haul in close to 60,000 pounds of fish per trip, they are found in waters all around the world, and they use every trick in the book to keep from getting caught, it's high seas piracy on a grand scale, China is literally fishing the earth dry! The U.S. Coast Guard is expanding its fleet of Cutters in part to counter this alarming trend, and they have teamed up with the Navy and Marine Corps to devise a long term plan to deal with China's illegal fishing! Also, with the Artic opening up to more and more shipping, it will also open up to more fishing, something China is well prepared to take full advantage of, and they need to be stopped right quick and in a hurry like!
I've found that a can of my favorite bush's grilling beans locally has gone up from just under 2 bucks to nearly 4 in the past 6 months ... and that's when it's ever in stock. I can find it online for right around 3 shipped. Prices have for most items have gone up 50 to 200 percent on the quality items. The generic/store brands are at least 30 percent up. It's getting interesting
@VisuTrac What size of can sir ? I love those also , I'll price them out up here in canuk bucks and post the costs we have . Sloth
Dude, were getting the big cans of Bushes baked beans here in Salem for $1.49 a can on sale, normally they are $1.85, which is outrageous! We usually do two cans and a 1/3 pound of the costco low sodium bacon and that makes one hell of a winter meal! We buy the beans up by the flat when they are on sale!
Strange. Prices skyrocketed from 2008 through 2016, then plummeted, and now all of the sudden are starting to skyrocket again. I wonder what could be the cause - it's like there is something there but I just can't quite put my finger on it. Guess I'll just biden my time until it comes to me, hopefully by obama...
Bidum and the art of slight of hand look this way(Russians) while I cut deals with the Chicoms to enrich myself and family.
Yeah, their standard baked beans are for the big cans here is like 1.89 on sale and 2.39 regular. But they are never on sale anymore. I've got plenty of those. But i love the Grillin' Beans version in Southern BBQ and Steak House.

Back in the day, when Arabs and Japs were buying up every thing American, I was working low pro security with a very cool and educated dude from Mozambique who happened to be black. Not this American black, but true African black. We were discussing life in general when the subject of foreign countries purchasing up mass amounts of property in the USA and other countries, mainly Africa. After an hour of discussing the pros and cons, we agreed the only way to stop others from buying land was to stop selling it to them. We laughed and laughed at that for several hours. We both knew too well that greed conquers nationality, love of country and common sense. Whenever I hear this discussion come up, I just laugh, think of my friend and smile.
