Who will be watching the Solar Eclipse on Monday? I will be driving to Arkansas, with the location depending upon the weather. So far, Jonesboro is looking good, with sunny skies and warm weather, it's also closest. I hope that the skies will be clear, because I'm taking some family members, and I really don't want to listen to the bitching and griping if it's cloudy.

Not interested at all, seen a few in my life already and they aren't all that amazing unless you are 10 years old and have never seen one before. These happen every year, but we only see one here every decade or two.

The hype for this one is so over blown, when nothing happens those responsible for the hype ought to be throttled.

Apparently, I'm the only umbraphile here:eek:o_O, and before you ask, yes there are 12-step support groups, but nobody attends the meetings. This will be the last total eclipse seen in the USA for 20 years! I hope to view that eclipse when I'm 86 and have already told my nieces and nephews that they might have to drive me to southern Mississippi to see it.:) Weather permitting, this is gonna be BIG! Planes, trains and busses are filled to capacity, automobiles and RVs will clog the roads, and hotel, motels, and B&Bs are all booked. Millions live in the path and millions more will be travelling to be there. Some states and localities have declared states of emergency because of the massive and rapid influx of people, which could cause traffic jams, localized shortages of gasoline, food and accommodations, and stress governmental and medical services. It's great to be both a umbraphile and a prepper!

I live in AK - don't care. Likely as not, it will be snowing anyway...

You got to be sure that you are getting the REAL thing or use welding goggles rated 12 or higher. I have seen the bins of solar glasses in Wal-Mart (they sold out), but I got mine from The Great American Eclipse Co., they have been around since 2016 and I have used their glasses for both the 2017 and 2023 eclipses with no problems. They sell glasses, t-shirts, hats, books, and organize tours to eclipse locations around the world. I know all of this because I'm a card-carrying nerd.

I am already seeing out of state tags in abundance and longer lines at grocery stores and most gas pumps when we drove through town yesterday. As of this morning, I've locked the gates on both of our places and am staying in.

I really wanted to be on my hunting lease area to see if the hogs came out but don't want to fight traffic so I am staying in. I am right in the path of the eclipse.

There will be a solar eclipse in Alaska and Canada in several years, but I most likely won't be there...unless the airfares are right.

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

NASA is coming to my town AND we are famous for wildflowers blooming in abundance. Same weekend. Estimated 300,000 visitors to my 18k town. Ugh.

I am normally excited about teaching the grandkids about science but this year the hassle looks like it will be worse than the 4 minutes of Astral glory can overcome. (We had a great partial several months ago.)

If it isn't raining, I will cook hot dogs and burgers and make it fun.

I do plan on explaining gravity to their' level. Then I will inform them that while the sun and moon are in perfect alignment, they will be lighter than ever and they can jump higher. I'll have them hopping all over to great amazement from the crowd.

To me it's funny that NASA will be shooting a few rockets toward the moon to study. Just how far is that removed to primitive people shooting arrows to the moon.....

People laughed when states and cities declared states of emergency over a solar eclipse, but we are talking about a LOT of people. I have prepared for most contingencies; the car could break down, traffic jams, shortages of gas, long lines at eateries, etc., etc., etc. I have packed food, water, medications, first-aid kit, sleeping bags, BOB, extra cloths, firearms and ammo, maps, tool kit, hatchet and saw, knifes, cash and silver coins, and the eclipse glasses! It promises to be a fun trip and an excuse to bring out some of my preps! I've been checking the weather 3 times a day for the past week and things are looking great weather-wise, and in about 24 hours we will be on our way to Arkansas.
