Hi All, I have been running a tactical training company based out of West Virginia since 2013. I wanted to make you guys aware of it. I also posted about a new book I have just published in another thread. Website: Max Velocity Tactical Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) has established a reputation on the leading edge of tactical live fire and force on force training. At MVT we are dedicated to developing and training tactical excellence at the individual and team level. Max Velocity Tactical classes utilize professional quality combat marksmanship, tactical and leadership training, in order to develop situational awareness, teamwork, leadership, decision making and communication. My latest novel: 'The Storm Rages: Dragon Rising.' Thanks! Max
@MaxAlexander I read your first book long ago, 'Patriot Dawn,' and found it to be pretty good, rated it 5-stars on Amazon. The problem I have is your pricing, specifically for eBook (Kindle) versions, seem exceptionally high as compared to other authors in your genre and caliber. 'Patriot Dawn' and 'Patriot Rising' are both now over 10-years old and still selling for $9 (Kindle eBook) while other authors will sell their latest releases at the normal pricing of $6 or $7 and, if they do sell at a higher price upon release, they will drop in price with time - yours, not so much. So, for what it's worth, it's the reason I haven't yet purchased 'Patriot Rising' or your new installment as I'm being forced to choose between it and say a new book by Marc Alan Edelheit priced at $6.99, both books are good, both by good authors but one costs a couple of bucks more... I do understand, you can price however you desire and maybe you don't care about sales; nevertheless, I do think this is a major reason affecting many authors' sales especially by customers that are big readers, like me. We tend to not only look for good authors, writing the books we want but good prices too as we purchase 5+ books at a time to feed our habit. I mean, one must draw the line somewhere and there are thousands of excellent independent authors now unlike the old days stifled and controlled by major publishing houses. Anyway, I have enjoyed your writing in the past and wish you success in the future.
Great that you seem to have a Fly- In option, is there camping on site, or,.......... Would be interested in what options a feller on a wing and a prayer has, as I'm on the wrong Coast otherwise, though it could be a fun excuse to blast across country In the Alpine, would be a whole lot faster if I can Fly in and camp out! Anyways, welcome aboard, retired P.J. and long time shooter, always searching out training, can't ever learn enough!
Don't know what to say. It's a $2 price difference? Doesn't Amazon discount books when they want to anyway? The thing about my books, is that they are also a training resource. They are not just 'novels' but filled with best tactical practices. That was the original plan with Patriot Dawn, to write aa novel that illustrated the aspects from my tactical manuals. Then I had a scenario and a created world, so I had to follow it up!
"Don't know what to say. It's a $2 price difference? " Yep! Only $2 but when the customer sees $8.99 vs $6.99 and they're looking at 10 books for a fast read, the price difference does jump out at you. Or, they got another author's book on the list, with same sort of background, say Peter Nealen (Force Recon Marine), who writes same type of stories and definitely knows his stuff, but he's priced much more palatable, tuned more to the market. Also, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say stuff like "Why is the eBook priced as high as a paperback?" Also, you write to a niche market, a small percentage of the readers, so your competition is tougher than if you were writing fantasy, sci-fi or romance, etc. Also, there are a lot of experienced military veterans these days who are authors...a lot, some good, some not so good but a lot. "Doesn't Amazon discount books when they want to anyway?" Not to my knowledge or at least not yours as 'Patriot Rising' has been on my list to purchase since you released it in 2015 and I never saw it drop in price. It started out at $9.99 at release and is now at $8.99, 10-years later. Again, compared to your peers, Peter Nealen's 'Fury in the Gulf', released in 2017 has now dropped from $6.99 to $3.99...but he has put out a hell'va lot of books since then too and, unlike you, is now a full-time author. Reviews and ratings are about the same of both books... As a full-time author, he is interested in getting his books read, capture the reader and he will return. You have a business and write more as a sideline, so it is understandable that you are unconcerned. "The thing about my books, is that they are also a training resource." Yes, and that is what makes your story so good is because you know the topic, it smacks of realism; however, we don't buy these books to be 'trained,' we purchase them to be entertained. I believe you wrote a pretty good training book called 'Contact' if one was looking for knowledge, insight and training. It sells for $10 and being you are selling your knowledge and experience that is priced perfectly as non-fiction, it's a bargain really. All I am saying is I truly believe, as an avid reader (actually an addict) and one who enjoys your books, that your sales would improve if you would price more to your genre and the market. Let me put it this way, there are two boxes of the same ammo. The ammo is exactly the same and produces the same result for the shooter, goes bang and gives satisfaction of hitting where it is aimed. The boxes are different in print and color but same ammo, same count of rounds. One of them is priced $2 cheaper. Which would you buy? Anyway, this is just my 2 cents, and it is worth about that much. Hell, maybe less! LOL!
