I love this video about escaping civilisation as soon as possible in the event of a disaster. EMP in this case. It helps to have somewhere rural to escape TO. Feel free to critique or to add more. Types of SHTF situations to prepare for, learn to master level 1 first: Level 1: -natural hazards: fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, extreme cold... -temporary loss of electricity, water, public order, comms, banking, government functions; -riots, looting Level 2: low-level insurgency, indefinite martial law, tyranny, chronic riots & looting Level 3: indefinite or long-term collapse of civilisation, public order, water, electricity; -food insecurity, open rebellion, foreign invasion, EMP or other WMD attack or black swan event; -long-term anarchy, looting, pillaging Level 4: totalitarian government, biological-genetic warfare, medical tyranny Level 5: nuclear warfare, possible nuclear winter & other unknown long-term effects Level 6: meteor strike, melted ice caps (for whatever reason), pole shift, alien invasion, etc Some basic skills for after the collapse, we all know some of these hopefully: -First Aid -Fire Starting -Animal Care -Gardening -Food Preservation -Butchering -Cooking -Candle Making -Carpentry -Fishing -Foraging -Hunting -Traditional Medicine -Soap Making -Alcohol Making -Navigation -Mechanics -Well Drilling Items to accumulate before the collapse, and store in a safe place: (can also be used for bartering) -Bottled Water -Nonperishable Food -Firearms, Ammunition -Blades (many types) -Batteries -Tools (mechanics, carpentry, gardening, camping/survival, fishing) -Spare Parts -Paper Towels, Toilet Paper -Medical Equipment -Essential Antibiotics (check out The Wellness Company) -Essential Medications (check out The Wellness Company) Other useful items, also great for bartering: -Radios, walkie-talkies -Flashlights -Protein bars and candy -Alcohol (medical and for drinking) -Diesel fuel (if applicable to you) -Feminine hygiene products (until you become accustomed to going without, like the old days) -Tobacco, vape, cannabis, other narcotics (if applicable to you and those around you)
You need to watch a movie called "The Road"... While there are legit reasons to "bug out" (natural disaster, invading army), after most preppers become literate on the topic they realize the best bugout plan is one where you don't go anywhere. You "bug IN". That leads one to the logical conclusion to get the hell out of the cities.. and get rural. Survival will be about communities.. small, remote, organized, armed communities.
@Steverino I agree! Unless, of course, one is the big city then get the hell out as fast as possible! We reside in the country which increase our odds in many ways but, I freely admit, it diminishes them in others like manpower. Nevertheless, I think our odds are better here, so we'll remain and won't Bug Out until either forced to do so or absolutely don't have choice. @Maria739 very good list! I passed with flying colors! Thanks!
I will see it, thank you! Yeah, in the event of a "situation", there will be a refugee population from the cities and suburbs, it's best to be ALREADY living in the countryside, to BUG IN Most people are not rural though and will need to evacuate if they are unable to be self-sufficient (food, water, defence) for the duration of the "situation" (weeks? months? years?) in their city or suburb. And it's easier to be self-sufficient in the countryside (food, water) than in the cities and suburbs, and there is a higher likelihood of a functional local government and local residents that help & trust each other Or you could always set up a group if it does not already exist. I have an unusual situation where I have a global business (aviation) and I am always travelling between cities/airport suburbs, and I am able to evacuate quickly by air, and I also work with close friends/family who live in coastal cities and are sailboat owners and preppers, who are able to evacuate by sea So any bug-out or bug-in will be short-term for me until I or my friends are able to get the hell out of there to somewhere, anywhere better Also I really do not like the idea of hiking more than 1 day through a hostile urban or suburban environment to reach a safe location, unless you are some tough guy who can easily pass as a homeless person
My friend is going to be taking me fishing and teaching me this summer, he normally throws the fish back and said its been several years since he prepared the fish, and I was like no you are taking me fishing and teaching me to prepare the fish. And he was like really? And I was like really! Its so important for me to stop being dependent on technology.
Fishing is not so difficult I'm too much of a sissy to slaughter and butcher a land animal. Fishing and cleaning a fish are much easier for me. Or raising chickens and taking their eggs.
Personally, I don't hunt anymore. Basically, because I got more than enough to eat and I don't like killing unless I have too; however, if I were to get hungry, then I wouldn't have a problem shooting those deer my wife gets so much enjoyment from feeding during the winter months. LOL!
