At least it's not a Tesla. Only non car people would ever think that fully electronic door handles that depends on having working low voltage and a working computer to open the door is a good idea. Yeah they're supposed to have some hidden trap door mechanism for a emergency door release but clearly few if anyone thinks of that after they've probably had a concussion and the car is on fire.
Your firsthand data speaks louder than speculation—low daily costs, solid battery life past 130k miles, and cheap backup options make your EV ownership practical and sustainable, no matter what outside assumptions suggest.
We have an EV that hubby uses to commute in. We also have 2 other gas powered cars. He has a regular gas motorcycle and I have an electric motorcycle. They have their positives and negatives. Good commuter cars. Bad for distance driving unless you want to add a shit load of time.
Yeah having to stop and charge can easily turn an all day drive into a 2 day drive. Ain't no body got time for that.
My leaf is killing it with these gas prices. Only have to fill up the gas burners less than once a month. It's easily saving $10 a day on gas alone.
Someone explain to me how we are now pumping enough oil to supply our needs but the oil companies can sell it on the world market at inflated prices. That oil is natural resource of the USA We the people own that oil, just as we own the national park etc. The oil companies made a profit at 70 bucks a barrel but due to fear and speculation the price jumped to over 100 bucks. I really don't believe in government price control but oil is the life blood of our economy and We the people are hurting because of this price increase. Trump should sign an executive order all oil produced in the US stays in the USA and the price is 70 bucks a barrel. You would see the price of oil world wide drop in a heart beat.
A 350KW diesel generator uses 12 gallons of fuel per hour x 3 giving the car 200 miles. I am very anxious to see the aluminum graphite dual ion batteries, not having the problems current batteries own. Being the way marketing goes I probably won't see it in my lifetime.
If I charge my car with a 905cc Kubota 3cyl flood light generator it's gets around 40 to 44mpg. If I did efficiency upgrades to it like add a turbo, replace the belt driven fan with a thermo switched electric fan, run a hotter thermostat, eliminate the alternator and replace it with a 120v to 12v battery charger, go to 30wt oil I bet I could get it well over 50mpg.
I just paid $4.07 for regular at Costco EV are looking more attractive but I can't believe gas prices won't drop dramatically Trump can't be that foolish. Prices must come down before the mid term elections or the House and Senate will be lost to the demoRATS and the country. will be lost forever
I've heard in some places that used EV prices have almost doubled. Do not buy now. I got my leaf in 2018 for 3 reasons. Gas was in the $2 range for the first time in about 10 years and everyone wanted gas guzzlers. Some of the people who were going to get a EV bought a fuel efficient car because cheap gas and nobody wants a fuel efficient car when gas is $2 a gallon. Teslas caught up with their backlogs of orders from the first ever. People couldn't wait to buy a new Tesla to help save the world..... Used EV prices crashed.
Good advice, OP4! Always zig while others are zagging. If you’re shopping for a truck/suburban, this is the time.
True story. I've got my eye on a gas guzzler right now. I told the salesman the price I'd pay for his truck. Told him to call me when they are willing to come down. It's been on their lot for 2 months now, I'm pretty sure they paid the previous owner 5x less than they have it up for now when they took it in on trade.
Inversely i bought my 7.4L suburban in 2014 when gas prices had been around $3.50 for years with no end in sight. They practically paid me to take it.
