Found a large box of Strike Anywhere Kitchen Matches $3.00 at Hardware Store. Haven't seen these in while. Are they still common?

I haven't seen them in years. Great find! Are they really old, or is there a company still making them? I'd like to find some myself.

I come across them once in a while and they almost always are on sale at gunshows. They still make them but have to pay a haz-mat shipping fee to send them so most stores don't bother to stock them on such a low-end item. One the plus side, you can make all sorts of interesting things with them such as rockets, fire-crackers, and shoot one out of a BB-gun into a brick wall; they explode on impact.

The reason you can't find them anymore is the same reason you now have to provide your ID to buy drugs that contain Pseudoephedrine in them, because the freaking Meth heads need them to cook crystal meth. The freaks sit around with a knife and a box of matches, scraping the red phosphorous off to make Meth. When they get done scraping matches, they then crush up the Pseudofed.
The next time you see a rotten tooth arm scratcher, go punch em in the head and scream in their ear, "I WANT MY FREAKING MATCHES BACK"

    YA, what Sniper said.

I'm getting real sick of not being able to get things I need without getting the 3rd degree or having the drug squad follow me home

Make sure to label the packages for those homemade stike anywhere matches! They looked like short-sticked Q-tips.

    Ouch! (what a hot head.)

I found a 3 box set at Sportsman Warehouse last year. I picked up a couple of sets but I am really disappointed in the quality of the "strike anywhere" now days.

Our little grocery store buys them. 750 for $2.79. I buy them every time I go in there (especially since we heat with wood and I keep hearing how hard they are to get). Spouse keeps telling me "enough already"! Then I have to say, what if we run out? How are you going to light the stove, because I don't want to do it w/o matches.

Our "Publix" grocery stores carry them, but yeah, quality ain't what it used to be. Still, I stocked up.

Ok. I'll spill my secret shopping place for the strike anywhere matches. I've found them at every ACE hardware around here. They sell the 250 count for around 2.00. I've bought some every couple of months that way they order a couple of new boxes. Not the greatest idea of having them rotate but hey they keep having them on the shelf so I'm not complaining. And to change the subject just a tad. Dollar General and I get along quite well.

    Take care Be safe Poacher.

Here in Phoenix, they were selling for $.99 for a large box, at the True Value and Ace Hardwares stores. Now they went up to $1.49 a box!
