From my daughter.... This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "HowWould You Fix theEconomy?" Dear Mr. President: Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:There are about 40 million people over 50 in the workforce. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings -Unemployment ... fixed..... 2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million carsordered - Auto Industry fixed.... 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed..... It can't get any easier than that. If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes... Sincerely, A Citizen
It is flawed. I am 52. Make me retire, and take the million bucks. Half goes to taxes - I now have a half-million bucks. Force me to buy a new house (mine is paid for) - there goes another $100,000 or more. A new car - there goes another $25,000 for a decent one. I don't really need one. So now I have maybe $350,000 or so........ Figure about $35,000 a year for living - what I am making now. That gets me by for the next ten years, if I am frugal. By the time I am 65 - I am nearly broke.
Of course it's flawed....But so is what we have now. Besides, I can always work another job.....Just retire from one job. and I debated putting it in the humor section anyway...
It would work all right if you also cut-off welfare. The poor can get the available jobs,start pain taxes and get mad at the illegal aliens that are soaking up "Their" tax dollars and boot-em out ,the newfound taxmoney and welfare savings could fix So-so security, and you could suplement your 350,000 with that.
