Has anyone heard of gluten free MRE's? Prepping with Celliac family members has put me on the lookout for them, provided they exist. I realize being gluten free is a fashion trend with snow flakes, some folks have no hoice in the matter To compound the issue, one member of my household was bit by a tick and now has an allergy to pork and beef....yeah, its a thing. A major PITA for strategic planning too.
BT the canned salmon I've seen is the worst stuff ever, seems Bumble Bee just hacks a lenght of salmon the right size and cans it, nothing more... ok maybe it was gutted. Rancher
Yep, That is what we do... If you want Frozen, you can buy the whole fish, but it will not keep for ten years.... It is the same with all canned fish... Think it as Fish SPAM.... Canned Protien....
My wife has been diagnosed with both Celiac and lactose issues. We've ended up having to dry and can our own preps, or buy the freeze dried stuff that has neither gluten or lactose. That means pretty much your basic meats and veggies / fruits and cereals. Most prepared freeze dried, boxed or canned meals are along the macaroni and cheese line of thinking - bad stuff for anyone who isn't a hyperactive kid let alone those with gluten and / or lactose problems. For a Christmas present to us this year we purchased a freeze dryer. So now we're beginning to make pretty much all our own preps as food items go on sale. We also have a tangerine tree in the back yard that produces a couple hundred pounds of fruit this time of year. So that goes into the machine as well. Eventually we'll figure out how to freeze dry complete meals. But for right now we're amateurs. Time will tell if it was a worthwhile investment ($$$$) given our situation. But we really needed to take control. We can't just buy any food that happens to be available.
I don't have celiac but apparently I am allergic to wheat because if I eat it in any form, I'll soon wish I hadn't. I hate that the hipsters all latched onto gluten free because I can't say I'm gluten intolerant now without sounding like a snowflake. A sort of friend of mine did what Altoidfishfins did and got a freeze dryer last year because he's diabetic and needed to really control what was in his food. He loves it, and said he's saved a fortune freeze drying his own meats. It's something to consider, if you can round up the scratch to buy one.
Same here.. not allergic persay.. More. intolerant.. as in if I eat it.. I feel like crap.. & start having trouble with my shoulder again (Nasty inflamation previously thought to be repetitive strain due to work.. but totally disapeared when I quite eatting wheat/grains) So i avoid it.. except for the very ocasional (maybe once a month ) Properly made artisian sourdough bread.. which dosent seem to cause an issue.
