Does anyone know if there is a unified part numbering system for plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC parts? In electronics, we have the EEM system and I'm seeking information on anything comparable. I'm setting up an inventory system for a client and need to structure part numbers. Thanks for any input.
You're probably right. I haven't been able to find anything yet. I have a half dozen plumbing and well drilling clients and I've never seen any standardized numbering
I see a lot of industrial pipe and fittings. There are UPC codes on a lot of them that come from suppliers rather than Home Depot. It might be worth a call to the local industrial supply company. Possibly Graingers or Mason-Neilon could point you in the right direction.
Thanks ghrit. It's worth a try. The only thing I've found so far is nomenclature based or vendor specific numbers. If I can't find anything, I guess I'll have to create my own system like everyone else. Of course, being an accountant by trade, I love numbers anyway but I don't usually have an opportunity to get too creative with them. The IRS frowns on that.
