There is a fellow in the Detroit area that followed Joe’s advice of just fire a blast through the door to prevent a home invasion, now that fellow is in jail for a very long period of time. So, listen to Joe and go to jail or worse.
Actually, buying a shotgun is good advice. my Uncle once told me when I was a little kid that he would feel very secure with a shotgun and 500 rounds for it. A blast in the air should scare anyone. I would be prepared to follow that up with on target shooting though.

I don't think so! First, unless you can see who is coming through the door before they breach, you gotta let them do it before you plug them! Me, I like to spot the tangos from far away, then I can pick the time and place to end them, usually done in such a way that their tango buddies don't know about it till another one hits the dirt! It's easier this way! I prefer my warning shot serve as a warning to the remaining Tangos that they might want to rethink their life choices before they become the next warning shot!

you need to be responding back to an actual attack before doing anything like firing back thru an outside door >> and need to do that before the shooter side steps away from the door - if you want to catch the guy with a blast it would likely be to right side of the door jamb - with today's building construction that wouldn't be all that hard ....
Shooting thru a closed door is just plain stupid wrong. My kids used to make a hell of a racket trying to sneak in after curfew.

I had a friend in school who got into argument with another mom over her son being picked on and was told to f off and slamed the door my friend mom goes to the car take the shot gun and shoots through the door killed the other mom and did 15 years at a work camp.
My dad he passed a few years back but anyways he had a gang problem where he lived and the only gun he had was a Ruger single six with a 9 1/2 inch barrel so I gave him a Mossberg 500 26 inch barrel with ghost ring sights # 4 buckshot and told him if they come in the door shoot them in the chest he said he did not want to kill any one just stop them so I said shoot them in the high the thigh and he asked would it stop them 41 pellets of number 4 buck I said yes sir it will stop them where they are but was really thinking it's going to send them to hell in about 45 seconds anyway long story short my dad was baker acted my shot gun taken into evidence took me two years to get it back still have the ammo in the evidence bag reminds me of my dad when I look at it.
