so back in the day i stayed in a cabin up in the mountains and spent most of my time alone hunting and fishing,,, and going hungry. it was a fair trade off. if you think being a mountain man is easy try it sometime. anyway id go to town every couple weeks and fix cars or cut wood for supply's. as i crossed the railroad tracks i noticed a lot of blood sprayed on the snow. my mind immediately went to a deer getting hit by a train and maybe some chunks big enough to eat. there was about 5' of snow so once you walked down the tracks you would be trapped if a train came. being careful to listen for trains i headed in the direction of the splatter. not far in the tracks told the story,,a dog walking down the middle, then running, then splat. poor thing ,,,took his head right off.
thinking that if this was my dog i drug it back to the road and set his head and collar on the snow bank above the body so the owners could find it and bury it. i didn't think much about it. a couple weeks go by and i head to town. couple newspaper editorials about a serial killer decapitating dogs and folks up in arms over the dog murdering bastard hiding amongst them. nobody blamed the train. i didn't say shit. some things are just not worth explaining.

What's that saying, "no good deed goes unpunished"?
Yeah, even when you try to do right it can be taken out of context.

Your story almost sounds like an intro to a murder mystery novel.
