Im sure most of you are like me. I get up in the morning, eventually get dressed and start loading up! My EDC is carried in my pockets and on my belt. But what happens if SHTF hits and I find myself with ONLY my EDC?!? Sure I have kit in my vehicles. My house is ready. I know where I can resupply depending upon where I am (think caches, etc) But how does my EDC help me immediately? Running this question through your mind as you take a mental note of your EDC, can you think of gaps? How can you fill those gaps? I typically have a 4” Ruger SP101 .357 magnum with 27 rounds of ammo. Security and ‘hunting’ - covered. Cutlery- Benchmade Contego, Becker Necker and Vic Rangergrip 78 can all be found in my pockets. Cutting, sawing, a few other small implements and self defense-covered. Hankerchief, small amoubt of Gorilla tape and tourniquet, 1st aid - doable. EDC pouch - Compass, ferro rod, Bic lighter with Gorilla tape wrapped around it, Stormproof matches, earplugs, 6’ paracord, safety pins, - Fire and Navigation - covered! Misc improvising aided by these items. Zebra brand tactical pen and pencil Rite in the Rain pocket notebook - writing and self defense. Flashlight - candling and self defense. Wallets with cards, ID and cash. So the most glaring shortfalls are water and shelter. I keep kits in the vehicle and at home for this. If somebody else gives me a ride, I grab a kit, but I dont always walk around with it. I have rounded up and carried a small 28oz Kleen Kanteen SS water bottle which fits in a pants cargo pocket. Also I have a small DD Magic Carpet silnylon ground cloth/tarp that is about the same size as the bottle. Hence will fit in the opposite cargo pocket. I hope Ill never have to test out my EDC as a survival kit in SHTF. But I hope I can make do with it if forced to! Adapt, Improvise, Overcome!
