'Old Friends' (15 minute SHTF Video)

Would you not rather steal fuel at night? I guess it would be more expensive to shoot with night lighting. Very nicely done.

 

cool, "FEMA will be here soon honey" Nicely done vid, brings home some of the things talked about here as to NOT telling people about your preps. BTW MY daughters would *never* act like that........The last evac/bug out and the kids were pulling security and doing alot of sewing, male or female. Empty side arm???? GRRRR snowbyrd

Interesting what people take away from it.... I guess that's already pre-determined by what you go into the video with...

One of my thoughts....

Critical routines and safety measures forgotten or overlooked (ladder left down) in the anxiety or stress of a sudden and or unexpected event (sick daughter screams) forcing them to get up close and personal with the dangerous things they were trying to keep at safe distances....

Mental and emotional responses that are not so uncommon life threatening mistakes..... even with most highly trained and experienced.....

Read "Deep Survival" if you get a chance... good book that looks into these things, analyzing actual events and stories of survival and disaster.....

Good to see and think about these things.... as unpleasant as they may be....

Good vid. What I take from it is not to talk about your preps. Unless your willing and stocked to bring "Old Friends" in don't give them a thing, just thinking they will leave and not come back for more is foolish. I didn't take the guns are bad thing from this, what I got is not having the supplies, If you're going to keep a gun then you better have the bullets to shoot and you better be ready, willing, & able to do it without question. Bottom line here is my family comes first and the only people in my life at a time like this is my family everyone else is hostile and needs to be treated as such, I'll deal with the law if the world ever gets back to that stage after a event such as the one shown.

One more thought of having somewhere to bug out to, out of the metropolitan areas with any luck not having to deal with visitors.

Good one to show the wife, my kids are still of the age where this would be too much for them, but even more reason to start teaching them young. The young ones have to be taught that during a crisis life as they know it today may not be possible and this is the time they have to mind their parents to a tee.

The reaction to the child yelling is natural if every time your child yells you both go running, my wife complains I don't react fast enough when the kids "go off" like that, but I'm more of the thinking as long as I hear them they are at least still breathing which is a start, plus years as a EMT/Firefighter, local Police have my reactions not as frantic as most but more taking control of the situation, their biggest mistake they didn't take control of their situation by leaving access to their area because their child was yelling. Knowing that other access to the building is blocked, limited, or set up in such a way you know it's been breached then at that point you can assume (I know one shouldn't assume) that the child's situation is one that I don't need to drop everything for I can finish what I was doing then move on.

There could be at least one good way to make it work in an urban/burbs SHTF situation without the stealth. If you get to know the folks on your block and they are good folks who are willing to at least try to keep their kitchen cabnets full of canned goods and have more than just a day or 2 of food in the place then especialy for short to mid term situations (long term also if they are willing to prep more and or contribute skills to be worth others laying in some extra) then a neighborhood watch sort of thing could blosom into a situation like was seen in areas of N.O. where the ends of the block were blocked off and people took turns standing watch to keep unwelcome folks out.

Basicly just that if you prep enouph to help the neighbors some and or help them prep for themselves then it may be a great advantage as far as security goes since while 2 or 3 or even 5 people would have a very hard time provideing adequate round the clock security for an area, if you have say 30 people in the neighborhood working together then it becomes very plausable to have security running all the time to be able to at least sound an alarm and hold out for reinforcments from the rest.

Just another possiblity to consider, since while I havent tried to watch the vid yet (dial up SUCKS) from what I have gathered of what it shows, it sounds like if everyone on the block was working together and they had say 4 armed people on patrole and the rest of the neighbors ready to come to each others aid then it might have improved the senario for the family.
