Maybe this part should be split into a thread called SE/MW FtF...

Don't let our meeting spot discourage others who can't make this one. I like the way we have been thinking and I realize that Katrina has gotten us all thinking... I suggest others get together in their prospective regions as they can.

I have always wanted to go to Knob Creek, just never had the chance.I 'm pretty sure I can make it.As long as I'm in the country.I may have to go to Oman sometime in October to check on a business deal there.

I think regional get togethers would be a good idea.I would like to get something together for the NETX,Mo.,and Kansas guys. When I'm not globetrotting all over the planet I call North Central Oklahoma home. How about the Wannamacher gun show in Tulsa. It is sometime in Oct. and again in April.I go to it every year.Billed as "The largest gun show in the world."I believe it. 11 acres and over 5000 tables.

Well that would come a lot closer to being doable for me. Still not positive I could make it but post more details if it comes more likely and can see.

The Tulsa Gun Show is October 22nd & 23rd. I will definitely be there. It looks like my trip to Oman will be about the 7th - 10th. So Knob Creek may be doable too.I'll see when I get home.
I stand corrected on the tables. Over 3,700. Just seems like 5000 when your walking around it.

I'll have to see how things look closer to time but may be able to work out the Tulsa thing. Is there any place around the area to toss up a tent? Know by chance what the spaces run?

    I'll check on it.
I may stay there in a motel or may drive back and forth. If I drive it you'd be welcome to stay at my place. It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive from there.
The only problem with driving it is you have to get there early. If you have never been, it is humungus. You can't see it all in two days.

I would love to go to Knob Creek again. That was so much fun (and I need to get me another shirt or a hat from there again - tore the shirt from the last time).

Yep I've been once during the spring.

But I need more warning to plan and this year for me I think will be a no go. Not because of the distance (and I don't mind flying even with the restrictions), but because of all the other expenditures...I just love looking through all the stuff (well at least for a day or so).

Plus it would be enjoyable to meet up with any of you.

Maybe we see how this goes, and next spring do it again TLynn, this time with you making the trip.

Minuteman, I look forward to meeting you if you can make it.

Monkeyman, I understand. Maybe next spring will be better for all of us.

Sounds like some are starting to think about reginal meetings, I think that is a good idea.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out......

I have a few guys from work who have gone to KC. They have asked me to go this year again.

but if this ftf group thing get rolling, that would push me over the edge to go.

I would be coming from Maryland

    Good idea Mel

You guys have gone and done it now. I will have to go to KCR this year to meet you all. Whoever gets there first call me so I can make the long 20 minute drive out there. [beer]

Over 5 years ago this thread was started and died. Interesting thoughts given the many changes of the original 16 people who were talking back and forth amongst themselves. Would be curious to hear others thoughts now, 5 years later.

I am going to put my 2 cents in. Having at one time or another , traveled all over the U.S. I realize that the nicest places are in the north. However, everyone else will also.. I settled in a remote area of AZ. 15 years ago, and although it is building, it is still open for many people without getting to personal so to speak. New mexico is also a good choice. It is harder to survive down here, but also less populated. Water would have to be the main consideration here.

Interesting read....did y'all ever get together?

One thing that struck me was the misconceptions that many have about Oregon. I moved here in '98 after researching most of the options west of the Mississippi. The vast majority of the population (and the PC bovine feces) is in the NW corner...which is pretty much the southern end of the Seattle People's State. Once one gets south and/or east of Eugene/Springfield, the population density drops dramatically. Even in the area between Portland and Eugene, the vast majority is along the I-5 corridor.

Most of those people (the few who have any plan to start with) are likely to be headed for the the Olympic Peninsula, the Oregon coastal wilderness areas above Newport or east through the Columbia Gorge.

I am about 150 miles from Eugene/Springfield off the I-5 corridor by about 15 miles in a county with 80K people spread over about 1650 sq miles...with just over 30K of the people in the county seat. We have many areas that can easily be made very difficult to access by vehicle with the dropping of a bridge or 2 or a couple of well-situated landslides. The I-5 corridor itself is easily cut north of us at Roseburg and south of us any one of a number of places from Shasta, CA north.

One of the things that hit me as improbable about some of the posts on this thread, is the ability to travel safely in a SHTF scenario. I think you might be able to move freely in the very beginning, but once things have gone to hell, a long road trip is suicide. There are bound to be federal govt roadblocks, local govt roadblocks, community roadblocks, bandits and thieves setting up roadblocks, and that's not to mention desperate people trying to ambush you or overwhelm you for your vehicle.

My thoughts are, you better get where you are going in the beginning and then don't venture out of your familiar area, or no telling who or what you will run into...
