I've been researching Greenhouses for where I live. I found this book of experiments this guy did while building greenhouses that were earth sheltered. Found his quirky stories very entertaining. There is a lot of info in here about greenhouses.

One of the things I think he misses if you are putting in a green house above ground is to not make it stand alone. If its surounded on 3 sides by earth or structures the green houses cost less to heat in the winter but you must build in windows at the top for air circulation when its hot.

I have a neighbor who has two commercial greenhouses. They are recessed into the ground about 4 or 5 feet. Even here in north Idaho they stay about 50 degrees in the winter months. I always wanted to do the same but have never gotten around to it.

 

There is a book available about building earth sheltered greenhouses. I was going to build one when we lived in Oregon, but life changed my plans, and now we live in a large RV in Arizona!

 

Do they use sinks for cold air? Or just have them in the ground 4-5 ft?
