During the era, there were laws in both free and slave States which required the return of slaves to their owners when the law provides a firearm is not required. Members of the "underground railway" who got caught assisting slaves went to jail.

With a size of 500 to 1000 acres, the thought of "mastah" riding around on his horse with his gun to keep the slaves from escaping is ludicrous at best.

Spins on the 2nd Amendment work well until one spends a few moments researching history of the era.

Chelly, your browser's spell checker must be special as it accepts the words from the King's English we know are misspelled. ;) ;)

Speaking if Liberals, recently Danny Glover has picked up this exact torch, and is running with it. Let us hope for his sake the Militias doan catch him and return him where he belongs. .... Actor says 2nd Amendment Created to Defend Against Slave Revolts . BTW, Truthout can use your contributions as can Thom Hartmann the author of Post #1's link. Just purchase these books from Truthout to support their position and learn more. Better yet, steal them from a book store, but don't get caught, ..... strictly as an act of civil disobedience, or borrow a copy from a liberal friend .. read it then dispose of it. Or you might try your local library. Treat the book like "Unintended Consequences" was in my liberal library (badly). .... here are your books; 'America's Stolen Narrative: From Washington and Madison to Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes to Obama" [Paperback] | t r u t h o u t | Members , "Democracy at Work: A Cure for Capitalism" [Paperback] | t r u t h o u t | Members ,

Isn't smirking what that smarmy girl in Twilight does a lot? At least my daughter complained of that.

Anyone that can't understand the language of the US Constitution or the writings of our founders only displays their hubris and ignorance when the speak on the matter of our enumerated rights. In fact, in lieu of mental effort they are likely to just put on a smarmy smirk. Or go into acting. Or politics.

This is pretty much what I told our sheriff to his face the other day when he said he'd have to wait for his constitutional lawyers to give him the details on thew new SAFE ACT of 2013 (Unconstitutional bullshit act of 2013). I said that the language is pretty clear and furthermore, we have a SCOTUS decision which is in modern english and cannot be misunderstood at all. He said that hasn't read the McDonald or Heller decisions and doesn't know the background. I just about shit myself.

And I might add, the ships for black birding were built in both England and Ports in the NE of the US. Cotton mills in England and later the US required cheap cotton which in that day ment slave labor. So the whole world depended on slavery for cheap cloth, no one country was innocent.

The Triangle trade routes which supported slavers needs started in the NE US. One leg of this was to Africa where slaves were bought from other Blacks or Arabs.

That is a completely separate and complex problem. The blame can be spread around like debris from a tornado. The beligerent individual, the parent(s), the living/school environment, bad teachers, poor school administration, peer presure, the list goes on and on and on.

Then if they honestly believe that crap; they are truly a naive idiot or the victim of their own stupidity. White or Black, if they are looking for sympathy; it is found in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

Although it is a nice rhetorical flourish for the benefit of the true believers who are in a greement, but it is no more to the point than that the word sympathy may be found between the words strength and symphytic in the dictionary: But don't let a non sequitur get in the way of a robustly adhominem argument.

I have worked with talented blacks. There was a young black engineer in the last cycle of interns; plenty of horsepower between the ears plus he was raised with manners and work ethics. A value added to any company who gets him. All the interns are sharp; the Maker doesn't limit brains to any particular people.
Very few humans are born stupid, lacking abilities, honesty, manners and work ethics. Getting "there" involves wasting the first twenty years or so of one's life to end up lacking an education or a skill to market.

Chelly, didn't the Queen's Infantry have such interesting statements?

As I owe a black man my life; give the true believer spin a break, sport. Point is, you don't know me.

However, you have saved me. I now see strength and symphytic in people who lack the pride in themselves to "be all they can be." True, I'm not a socialist, progressive or bleeding heart liberal.

Speaking of symphytic, spell checkers must dislike matter formed by fusion or that which grows together.

Wouldn't synergy where the sum of the parts produce a result greater than the sum of their individual effects been a better fit for what you attempted to say than symphytic? It fits in the same alphabetic order also.

Ad Hominem is against the person; I am against the failure and waste of a human.

Here's a 2007 New Zealand Herald article quoting James Flynn, of Flynn Effect fame:

Brainier mums needed to maintain future generations' intelligence, says professor
    8:21 AM Sunday Jul 8, 2007

An internationally recognised expert on intelligence warns New Zealand children could get dumber in three or four generations unless women with higher education started producing more babies. Otago University emeritus professor Dr Jim Flynn was commenting on census figures that show mothers without a higher education were the anchor of New Zealand's current fertility rate.

"Everyone knows if we only allowed short people to reproduce there would be a tendency in terms of genes for height to diminish. Intelligence is no different from other human traits," he told the Sunday Star-Times. "A persistent genetic trend which lowered the genetic quality for brain physiology would have some effect eventually."

Statistics show women without tertiary qualifications who had reached their early 40s had produced 2.57 babies each. In contrast, women with a higher education were producing just 1.85 babies each.

Dr Flynn said at 73 he was too old to worry about offending anyone.

Unplanned pregnancies by less educated women could be reduced, perhaps by future scientific advances. "I do have faith in science, and science may give us something that renders conception impossible unless you take an antidote," he said. "You could of course have a chemical in the water supply and have to take an antidote. If you had contraception made easier by progress, then every child is a wanted child."

Commissioner for Children Cindy Kiro said Dr Flynn was getting into "dangerous territory". "Rather than talking about encouraging smart women to have babies and dumb women not to have babies, what we do need to do is make the commitment to good quality education."

    Sorry Chell.

Slaves as a reason for the 2nd ammendment is just a INTERNET thing to stir up hate and discontent.

You need to check the time line if you want to play devil's advocate.

There were as many indentured WHITEs as there were Blacks into the 1790s. Only after the war and the constitution did the slave trade rev up, this to provide England etc with cotton and tobacco.

A larger majority of imported slaves went to the sugar plantations of the West Indies or Brazil, this was not an American Colony but British. And that population has now exploded.

Again I say, Slaves as a reason for the 2nd ammendment is just a INTERNET thing to stir up hate and discontent.

Now the slaves (Convicts and aborigines of australiain) OZZ continued for many decades and the Aborigines of Australia and the convicts had no rights for decades and the aborigines of australia were highly limited and punished with housing and schooling limits, this into the 1970s. This group of social slaves/outcast was very expansive and included any race that was not white including any Asians. Been there saw it

Uneducated? >ignorant, illiterate, nescient, uninstructed, unlearned, unschooled, untaught.

I would have to say Glover and Obama are educated in the methods used to overthrow a working republic or as near as the US is to that in the past.

You can bet Glover and Obama have been schooled in all the wrong ways to be a help to the US.

    YMMV
