Instead of corn syrup in the divinity recipe, use 1 cup of sugar (raw) and 1/4 cup water to make a syrup. My aunt made divinity all the time with egg whites, and she made her own syrup.

HFCS became a popular additive when the corn lobby got taxes raised on granulated sugar, making it less cost-effective for businesses to use it in their products, thereby raising the demand for corn syrup, at least here in the US. Now, companies are going back to plain sugar because people are reading labels and not buying things with HFCS in it.
Even though the FDA says it's safe, I've read that the reason HFCS makes you gain weight is that your body will not process fuctose on its own. Therefore, it doesn't recognize the extra fructose, doesn't secrete insulin for it, and you store the fructose as fat after it sends your blood sugar sky high and raises your insulin resistance.
I'll see if I can find the article I read.

All I need to consider is GMO corn and anything labeled "corn syrup".
