Interesting in that we are now in the early stages of a new world. The last major magnetic storm caused problems in the telegraph system. The next one has at least the possibility of destroying our modern electronic dependent world. At least for the modernized portion of it. No electricity and we can support about 1 to 2 billion people on earth. We have close to 5 billion. The cities become death traps. Then just to make things toasty, we don't know what the long term effects of the present changes in the earth's magnetic field are going to be or what the time line will be. We know that the poles have moved in recent times and flipped in the past. We do not know what the reactions will be in the ability of the earth's magnet fields to protect us from both the sun and other sources of energy in space. Past explosions in space of nuclear weapons of in preset terms low yield weapons have shown that major effects could be shown. In terms of possible effects from the sun they were of very low power. We have only wild guesses of what could happen and the people in charge have a very vested interest in keeping our heads buried in the sand. What ever nature wants to do it will do and our actions in the past have been to respond to the effects rather than be proactive. The government usually arrives in time to clean up the debris from the flood, not build flood walls or to prevent people from building on the flood plain.
Earths population 8.2 billion, the poles are shifting and no one is talking about it. Makes me wonder if the government knows the SHTF when it does and they are powerless to deal with the result.
