..and now they want your tannerite

    http://publicintelligence.net/fbi-exploding-targets/

(U//FOUO) The FBI assesses with high confidence recreationally used exploding targets (ETs), commonly referred to as tannerite, or reactive targets, can be used as an explosive for illicit purposes by criminals and extremists and explosive precursor chemicals (EPCs) present in ETs can be combined with other materials to manufacture explosives for use in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Interesting thing,,scroll down to the bottom..they have bulletins out saying "look out for"....

I'm guessing Boston Police gets these same memos?

Ammonium Nitrate and Fine aluminum powder.
Just in case you wanted to know what Tannerite binary components are.

A very good friend markets it here in NC. Mighty nice folks. Sen Lowenbalm has introduced a bill to require back ground checks for any powder purchases. We better be getting what we want ASAP.

By the by "Smokeless" powder is nothing more than Blackpowder components thoroughly mixed and then saturated in a solution of powdered graphite. That is why most foreign firearms have extremely high chamber pressures to acommidate the use of blackpowder and berdan primers. It takes more than getting what you can when you can because it may go bad and if you dont know how to make it your tools become useless. Stay Alert Stay Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ???? Huh?

Nitrocellulose is the primary component of smokeless powder, not sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate which is blackpowder.

Also, smokeless powder has far more energy than blackpowder and develops higher chamber pressures.

William, I really do NOT know where you get your Chemical Knowledge, but it has NO BASIS in Fact. Smokeless Powder has NOTHING in common with Blackpowder, chemical wise. Smokeless Powder comes in two basic forms. Single Base, which is straight NitroCellulose, and Double Base which is NitroCellulose with other NitroOrganics dissolved in the NitroCellulose. None of these have ANY Potasium Nitrate, Charcoal, or Sulfur as components. Smokeless Powder burns significantly faster than Black Powder, and as the pressure builds, its burn Rate, increases, where Black Powder burns a a constant burn Rate, no matter what the pressure is in the barrel. These are the FACTS, of the matter. .....

Mostly right Bruce, but BP actually burns faster than smokeless, but has less energy. In fact, BP is considered a deflafrating low explosive while smokeless is merely a flammable propellant.( yes I'm a geek)

Burn Rates for Smokeless depend a lot on the pressure, where as BP burn Rates are steady for all pressures. This is why in the open, Smokeless appears to burn slower than BP. BP deflagrates, (Oxidizes) the Carbon, and Sulfur, into CO2, SO2, KSO, and NO2. Smokeless does NOT in reality Burn, (oxidize) but exothermally Decomposes into NO2, CO2, and H2O and does so rather Rapidly. The amount of Gases produced, by Volume, from the same weight of Powder is significantly higher for Smokless, over BP, which is why smokeless releases more energy than BP, along with a higher temperature of those produced Gases.

Another note here... With Single Based Powders, it is very unusual for them to ever create enough Energy, and Pressure, to go from exothermic decomposition, to Detonation, while decomposing, even in a confined container. This is NOT the case for Double Based Powders. These CAN be made to quickly make that transition, depending on the desolved NitroOrganics used in the formulation. This is why it is very dangerous to work above known SAFE Pressure Levels, when Loading cartridges, with Double Based propellants.

So, what you guys are saying, is that Taco Bell tends to use Nitrocellulose based smokeless powder mix rather than the traditional, black powder? Because, all I did was drink a pint of Sam Adams double dark IPA and the toilet, I am sad to report...is no longer viable.

ya but .... I am talking before "nitrocellulose" What I am talking about is well before "modern smokeless" powder which was developed when?after what big altercation? the Japanese used just what I described in my previous post .The Jap type 99 still has, after all these years, the highest chamber pressures around, know it ,read it, talked to expert people who made them so I know what was used . Just Sayin there are special cases that predate what you all are talking about that still apply to this very day so Misguided I can be sometimes but ignorant to what I know to be fact (seen with my own eyes) I am not . Nitro is the propellent used inBoxer primers and some in the powder right? Berdan primers are a different matter all together. Research the difference between Hot loads And heavy loads there is a difference one uses plain ol' blackpowder Hot load. One uses your modern powder with boxer primers nitro with a few more grains than a normal load ....I did work for gov and contractors did research before buying every firearm in my kit for three or more reason 1)CHAMBER PRESSURE 2)AVAILABILITY OF AMMO 3)kNOCK DOWN POWER. DO KNOW QUITE ABOUT WHAT (I) OWN NOT SAYING IT IS A STANDARD . JUST SAYING ITS EXTREMELY POSSIBLE TO USE MY COMBO FOR ALL WEAPONS IN MY i STRESS MY ARSONEL.

Are you talking about Cordite? Guncotton? Neither have anything chemically in common with blackpowder. As far as Boxer vs Berdan primers, the only difference is mechanical, not chemical.

As far as the rest of your post, sorry, my comprehension of your English is lacking.

Nope, what we are saying is that anything from Taco Bell, will ROT your Brain...... You need to only eat at Taco Time...... and their Taco salads, with lots of Thousand Island Dressing....

I do NOT know where your FACTS come from, but you have some very strange ideas, on what modern Ammunition components are made of, and what Energetics are used in these things. Modern Boxer Primers are powdered by Lead Styphanate. Lead Azide was used previously, in Primers, and that was preceded by Mercury Fulminate. Lead Styphanate is less sensitive to Shock, and Static Discharges, than the other two Energetics. It is chemically more stable, even with higher temperatures. It does NOT react with metals, and stores, dang near forever, which greatly helps shelf life, of primers. Lead azide was used, earlier in Primers and was replaced due to the reasons above. Mercury Fulminate was the original Primer Powder, developed for use in Percussion Caps for CapLock Black Powder weapons. it is very sensitive to Shock, Heat, Flame, and Static Discharge. Much to sensitive to use, when better Energetics, were found. ....
