"Researchers have developed a de facto antibiotic “smart bomb” that can identify specific strains of bacteria and sever their DNA, eliminating the infection. The technique offers a potential approach to treat infections by multi-drug resistant bacteria." Public health | Homeland Security News Wire
That's awesome if it continues to develop as expected. I always worry about the unexpected side effects of miraculous medical advances. The history of pharmaceuticals is cluttered with the wreckage of what seemed to be good ideas at first. I hope it works as advertised. We could use a win in the war with bacteria.
That was much like my immediate thought. Very good, if it continues to do the right thing, but what if it mutates, and attacks the wrong DNA? And could it continue to change?
Or could it be engineered to attack specific gene sequences in selected mammals, especially higher primates.
IF is always the key factor. Too many people always seem to underestimate the natural order of things, including evolution.
Yeah. We talk about a coming economic re-set, or a political re-set; but you don't want to see Mother Nature hit re-set. She plays for keeps; and as smart as mankind eventually gets, she'll still be smarter, and more powerful, by a large margin.
Well that's one thing I learned out here, what being a farmer really means. It means Mother Nature makes your her b***h(moreso than alot of professions).
