I am going to go look at one tonight to use as backup power for our solar/wind.

It's a 3600 rpm machine, for whatever that may be worth or not. It is not obvious who makes the engine and genend, simply packaged by Robin, nor whether it is conventional or inverter. These items should be known before gettingithome. Note also it's a discontinued machine.

    [ditto] what @ghrit said

the spec sheet indicates it has a "Robin air-cooled, 4-stroke, diesel engine" most likely made in china :(

it does appear to be a 3,000 to 3,600 rpm unit, curiously the official spec sheet does not seem to mention that

methinks our generator experts recommend 1,800 rpm units

Our very own @BTPost replied there [winkthumb] [winkthumb]

Another member of that forum indicated the engine is not a gud unit, to put it politely. Based on all of that info we would say avoid that unit.

That forum is the authority when it comes to that kind of stuff.

    YMMV

I have a big one in my bus, I'm not sure of the brand but it has a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel engine. I should probably just pull it out and use it.

The Perkins/Caterpillar should be a better unit if it is in gud condition [winkthumb] [winkthumb]

Perkins 4-107 or 4-108 are very good Diesel Engines, and make Great Generators... I sold a 4-108 10Kw to a neighbor a few years back and it is still going strong...
