I've played with still photography( fairly seriously) since I was still wet behind the ears, and have been bitten by the video bug. What with 3ccd and hd camcorders available for reasonable cost I've started looking at equipment with the idea of producing some video. Anybody here play with video? I've been considering the new canon "Hv 30"(?) or an older used gl2 to shoot local flattrack racing for a friend. As the output would probably just go to the web or dvd (perhaps the local publicc access channel ); I'm thinking HD is mostly over kill; but 3 ccd color fidelity would be theway to go(?) Clean Low light images (blacks) are important( most of the racing in under lights summer nights).
I use the Canon HV20. It works and was about $899 at best buy. It has many features and presets for different light situations and focusing situations. If good sound is needed, then you need to spend about $250 to get a good external MIC. I am happy with this camera. I edit my videos with final cut studio HD and shoot in 1920 x 1080 resolution in cinema quality at 24 fps then reduce for internet streaming using Telestream compression software. Here is an example of what I do with this camera and software: http://www.revideomarketing.com/wonderlanddemosmall.html The software costs more than the camera. I have about $2,500 in softare to produce these videos. There is are cheaper ways.
If you are looking to do high end video, then JVC is coming out with a new camera that is equivalent to the Canon high end HD camera that retails for around $8k. the JVC model will retail for about $3,500.
wow; that has a very nice and professional "look". Would you have any reasons to (upgrade?)to the hv30 or40? (I know Canon always introduces numerically higher models 3days after you buy something; (though they are not always an "upgrade"). Is SD equipment worth getting into at this time? Seems "folks" are starting to "dump" their SD stuff for HD; there's quite a few lightly used canon gl-2's(and even xl-1's, xl-2's) and sony dvx's on ebay for under $1000 .
trying to. since I lost my commercial real estate leasing position last year. This is something I am trying to start. The shopping center in the video is the last one I leased and put together.
