Don't know if any of y'all live where you get a lot of apples... But I got this from a friend in Tenn...and it is the best Apple Butter I have ever made...Got it from her about 5 yrs ago..and it is a tradition this time of year....and Apple butter is just such an awesome autumn treasure. 2-1/4 pounds apples - cleaned, peeled, finely chopped 1 cup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 tspn allspice 1/8 teaspoon salt Place the apples in a slow cooker. In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Pour the mixture over the apples in the slow cooker and mix well. Cover and cook on high 1 hour. Reduce heat to low and cook 9 to 11 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown. Uncover and continue cooking on low 1 hour. Stir with a whisk, if desired, to increase smoothness. Spoon the mixture into sterile containers, cover and refrigerate or freeze. I prefer to mix different types of apples, like granny smith/red delicious, cortland, Fuji, etc.... On either fresh bread..or warm bisquits..this stuff is great!
