$20,000 per person: Activists push for guaranteed minimum income for Canadians | CTV News " MONTREAL -- A group of academics and activists is trying to drum up interest in an ambitious plan to provide every Canadian with a guaranteed minimum level of income -- whether or not they have a job. Rob Rainer, a campaign director for the Basic Income Canada Network, envisions a country where everyone is assured a minimum of $20,000 annually to make ends meet. "For many of us, we think the goal is no one should be living in poverty," Rainer said at a conference on the issue over the weekend at McGill University. "That's essentially what we're striving to achieve." " No...no it is not. What they are trying to achieve is massive welfare state where a large voting block is dependent on the system. The funding for such a system is NOT redistro of wealth...it's the creation of debt. Makes me so mad to see this sort of thing batted around MSN as "normal" or "inevitable" under the meme "We must eliminate poverty!". "What's wrong with you man....don't you want to eliminate poverty?" "Now give me more of your income as tax, pay more for food, the "privilage" of property, mobility, health care, etc etc etc etc" "If you don't "help" pay for someone who doesn't want to work, you're a bad person...."
