Here is an interesting TED Talk on the importance of sleep in maintaining the human body's immune system in tip top shape.

Transcript of "Sleep is your superpower"

Edit: Supplementary info on the importance of sleep.

I believe this. We went through 'sleep deprivation' in military training and one starts doing goofy stuff after a while. I am one of those that need sleep and don't do well even working night shifts. Yep! I believe every word of it and think it is even more important than stated.

On-call 24/7 in a very high tech, big $$$$$ industry doing Eng'ing level product support. Example: Sunday past @ 0600 I get a call, a cust had managed to "lose" ~ 40 TB of seismic exploration data. And had decomm'd their DR solution the week previous to save $$$. So 19 hours later we finally figured out they had done some completely off the wall config changes to that storage system. So while they were deleting stuff, to save $$$, they also deleted a bunch of 16TB disks that they thought were unrelated to what they were cleaning up. oops, So another 17 hours on Mon figuring out how to move the remaining data off so we can do major surgery on the file system to try and recover as much as we can.
A stupid admin trick, which is not at all uncommon, can eat into ones sleep cycle rather badly....

Everybody is different. Some need more sleep than others, some are night people, others are not. I don't sleep well in the daylight hours. For me, when watch standing 24/7 and rotating from days to swing then graves and back again with two days off in-between and repeat, recovery was questionable and over time, it wore me down.

Again, not everyone fits into a specific pattern...

Less than 5 hours a night, but I augment this with naps. Sometimes on the sofa, occasionally at red lights.

6 hours is a great nights sleep for me. Brain won't shut off longer than that.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

According to my Fitbit I average 7.48 hours a night.
If I get less than 6 hours for more than a few days in a row I start getting stupid. Mostly just super distracted with zero focus. Meanwhile my hubs does about 4.5 hours a night and functions perfectly.

I sleep far less than my husband (5.5-6 hours), but when we got those fitbits, we found out that I get nearly 90 percent deep sleep, and hubby gets like 50 percent deep sleep. I think that's our difference.

I typically sleep 8 hours every 72 hours on my home planet that is normal. What was the question again?
