sugar = white flour = white rice by dry weight. Each as a hypoglycemic index of 100 and the same amount of carbs, meaning they get in your bloodstream FAST. Without medicine, Keto as @runswithdogs mentions is your best bet, along with limiting the total calories.

My blood sugar level was 361 on 9/29. This morning it is 161 before breakfast.
You might look at the keto diet. For me, no potatoes, grains of any kind, no carbs, and I drink only water.
I eat meat, cheese, butter, sour cream eggs, lots of broccoli and half an avocado day. It looks like its working for me. Your blood sugar is high enough that you would be hospitalized if you were in the US. Walking and other exercises help too. Best wishes for a speedy return to good health.

Ok, so I had to go look up what your reading equated to here (the blood glucose reading work on a difrent scale here)
560+ =really freaking high. So yes, unless there was an error in the reading Its something you need to deal with yesterday.

Important note, high blood sugar/diabeties is not “the problem” it is actully a symptom. And most drs attempt to treat the symptom but ignore the cause. You want to target the cause which is insuline resistance.

This is Dr. Jason Fungs website Intensive Dietary Management (IDM Program). Hes a kidney specilist and deals mostly with diabetic patients (for obvious reasons) he started researching into cause effect and treatment for his patients leading him to keto & fasting. Hes now curring most of the patients that come to him, compleatly reversing there diabeties symptoms (and pissing of quite a few drug companys in the prosses) these are people with advanced diabetes/insulin resistance, not “mild” cases. They do offer online course/help but theres also a Lot of free info on the site.
Hes also written 3 books to date that I can highly recomend. (Amazon should have all of them but not sure if you can get shipped there or?)

Diet Dr. Website. Basicly all things keto, how to what to why to etc and so forth. I linked to Dr. Fungs info page as theres some good videos to watch there but lots more info around the site and other drs/videos etc. Dr. Jason Fung, MD - Diet Doctor

Dr. Ken Berry. Ive linked to one of his videos but if you click to watch it on youtube then you can see the rest of his channel.

Ketogenic forums, very good info & support network, a lot of diabetic and ex diebetics on here and people who do there research (and yeah, the odd idiot just like anywhere else but they keep this site pretty well ship shape) Ketogenic Forums

Also check youtube for 2ketodudes podcast. Very informitave and they do regulare shows with dr fung and his patients etc.

There's a lot of hard but true advice in that post.
I had an uncle die from diabetes. I guess I was kind of like the son he never had. He would take me fishing , hunting , taught me to drive , and many other things. He died from kidney failure. When my Mom told me he needed a transplant , I went to the hospital and got tested , and was a match to donate a kidney. But he ended up in the hospital , and never regained the strength he needed to survive the surgery of a transplant. I , and my Mom as well , believe he just gave up.
Don't give up AOG,,it's a serious disease , but it can be controlled , and mainly with just your diet. And I'm sorry to have to tell you this ,,, but you may have to cut back on that maple syrup on them waffles ,,
Good luck there buddy ,,,let us know if we can help you.

IF you actually running that high, you seriously need to get some competent medical attention sooner rather than later! I say IF because it does not just one day go that high and you are in one of the lands where MD might mean Magical Dancer instead of Medical Doctor :) Infections, Ulcers, toes, fingers and feet amputated and blindness I am guessing are not out comes that you find appealing.

"Diet" and exercise. I hate the word diet. Just eat healthy. I had a doctor tell me, don't worry about the foods. Just try to eat 10% less. Properly done tai chi does "massage" the organs like the kidneys and liver. I'm no doctor, but I think that is part of what helps with diabetes.

We should be headed back to the farm tomorrow. I will attach the new test results when I am back on a real computer. I hate using these tablets. Still a diabetic, but the numbers do not seem as bad.

Please keep us updated. One of the hardest parts of being a diabetic is always feeling like your energy is low and you have to push yourself. The reason is that all that sugar is in your blood doing bad things while you cells are literally starving because they can't access it. it's like being stranded at sea without fresh water - "Water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink...".

Also, when you look for blood sugar test meter price the test strips before you buy the meter. The strips are the expensive part. Every meter I have purchased cost me nothing either due to a rebate or a zero cost "copay". The strips can be very expensive. The system I use is what my HMO stocks since I get a good deal with my copay. I also keep a meter in each vehicle in case my blood sugar crashes when I'm out and about along with glucose tablets. I'm hoping that my keto diet along with weight loss and exercise will at least get me off insulin. I'm really looking into the videos @runswithdogs posted above. My goal is to not be dependent on any medication.

We have a pharmacist here we trust more than most doctors. (Here, you do not need an Rx to get any medications over the counter.) Chan went yesterday to find a glucose monitor. We always ask her for her suggestions prior to purchasing. (The last testing equipment we bought from her was an automatic blood pressure monitor in 2014. After using it regularly, it still runs fine, with its original batteries!)

The pharmacist suggested the following item, apparently made in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida? TRUEresult Blood Glucose Monitoring System. Cost was $30.00 USD, including 10 test strips. Additional strips may be purchased for $8.00 USD / 20 test strips. So, Chan bought one. I will read the instructions this morning and make the first test 24 hours after having taken my first medication.

Still searching for what I can drink, as I stay thirsty. I have been drinking coconut water / juice / milk from fresh very cold young coconuts, and water.

When we arrived at Handa Medical Center, I weighed in at 121 Kgs (~266 pounds). The last time I visited there (2015), I weighed in at 167 Kilograms (~368 pounds). I did not realize I had shed so much weight. Of course I cannot say I had been tracking it, either.

After arriving at the farm later today (02:38 currently), I will go through the videos and explore the keto forum as well.

I am right there with ya.

That is a sign of diabetes.

There is so much good info posted by members in this thread. I wish you the best on getting this right and getting your levels into normal range.

I highly recomend the book/s by Dr Fung also... at the very least the one on diabeties but there all helpful as they exsplain what your really dealing with, and why/how etc.

While you need to stay hydrated, coconut water has about 6.6 g sugar per 100g and milk has varying amounts (depends on type etc) fruit juice is even higher. These will all keep your blood sugar levels elivated.

Water is good but id suggest making whats called “ketoaid” Dr berry has a video on his channel on how to make it and it not only helps keep you hydrated but it also keeps you from depleting you electrolytes (which can cause its own set of problems)

Just double checked with DH and the blood glucose test should be taken about 2 hours after eating for general tracking info

So, is there anything else I can drink? Most everything we check has some amount of sugar in it. I would have thought I could still drink coconuts, fresh squeezed orange juice, etc.? Apparently, EVERYTHING I enjoyed, is now off limits. This is depressing as hell.

Yeah, unfortionatly that fruit juice “they” tell everyone is so healthy is actully a condesed sugar bomb (exspecially since all the fiber etc has been taken out) and really bad if you have blood sugar issues.
Try Fizzy water with some lime or lemon in it if you want something “pop-like”

Ive got a food porn thread on here somewhere thats all Keto food if it helps to give you an idea. And honestly theres tons of delishious food you can have . Its just relearning what to avoid and mostly thats all the carb stuff the drs have been pushing as healthy since the 1960’s... (coincidence that, that is when everyone started getting fatter, sicker and things like diabeties stated showing up more and more? :cautious: )
If you want some recipe websites let me know. Theres a couple good ones I use.

My experience with glucose meters is that all I have tried gave results close enough that I'm not brand specific. The one you have should have the accuracy and repeatability you need.

I drink water, unsweetened ice tea, hot tea (rarely) and coffee. Coffee helps me with the energy issue I discussed above. I add a small amount of milk, but a surprisingly great combination is coffee with coconut oil. You get an energy burst that happens as quick as sugar but not as much of a "rush" but it lasts longer.

I use coconut oil as well as butter and olive oil. Naturally I get additional fats from the meat I consume. Fats are a key part of a keto diet and you should get more calories from fats than anything else: Fat > protein > carbs

In many "weighs" you and I are like peas in a pod. My max weight was a bit over 390 and is now a bit over 290. Every pound I've lost and kept off was due to keto. Everything else that doctors and dieticians fed me was a pile of nonsense that led to more weight, drowsiness, digestive issues, and likely diabetes due to the high carb low fat diets they still try to push - note the exact opposite of keto: Fat < protein < carbs.

The last time a doctor brought this up she was pitching "The China Study". In a nutshell they compared rural farm workers in China to their urban counterparts and found that the farmers were all healthier and came to the conclusion that their high carb plant based diets were healthier than the higher protein and fat based diets found in the cities. I'd already read the book and she was a bit taken back when I asked her if she had any criticisms of the study. No answer so I explained that if you lived in a population center in China you drank polluted water that often times contained heavy metals and the air was so bad that many people use masks to breath through. Contrast that to performing manual labor in fresh air and having clean water to drink. My point was that there were many other factors than just diet and that was the Achilles heel of "The China Study". It got a little icy since doctors always feel that they have superior knowledge and don't like to be called out (I did it nicely) and I left it to her to do a few google searches and I would listen again. Never got brought up again ever.

Never mind that the people in towns were eating loads of prossesed crap foods compared to the farmers mostly eatting foods they grew/raised themselves (and more likely eating nose to tail, no waste)

I am Type 2 diabetic. Once in awhile I will drink a sugarfree drink, but mostly just water. I always keep water bottles close by.
Diabetic restrictions aren't nearly as bad as those for Sciliac and other gluten sensitivities.

Yes, please. Anything that Chan can prepare, because we are both in the dark here. Not to mention, I am using a dang tablet here in the city. Using them for anything more than reading PDFs or the forums, is almost a waste of time. I should have left one desktop here.
