They make both, but I chose the USB Version,,,, None of my Computers has a DB9 Serial Port, and going thru an Adapter, and extra Driver, can get messy with Windoz Virtual Machines. ..... YMMV....

I run Panasonic Toughbooks . serial DB-9 onboard.
You are correct on the serial emulator . Best I have found are Key-span hs-19 .
Iffin you ever find you require one.

Thanks , just haven't found them yet. Edit add, Found them . ready to order

5, they have been tested some around the place here, and I find them satisfactory for my location. (Bush alaska) I suspect they would not do so well in a High Density RF Environment, where there were a couple of hundred Transmitters all blasting away, within a couple of miles. The price is right, that is for sure. Momma likes hers, when she is traveling, because of the size, and she can recharge it, from the same sources as her iPhone. USB Charging.... ..... YMMV....

We like ours , we use them with ear buds & ja-bone mks , keeps us in comms while getting the field rats off the gated property/farm. they get paint balled , there 1 strike away to keeping plates pretty.
