If you are one against many, a good bleeding chest wound or thigh shot is better than a kill as at least one of his buddies will be tied up helping him. The low report also makes it harder to pinpoint.

Subsonic .22LR is quiet because it lacks the supersonic crack. It still makes a report, but certainly less noise than a larger caliber with supersonic velocity. Not like a suppressor, but the next best thing. I had a few failures to feed in my AR-7 and Ruger using this ammo. It might work better in a revolver than a semiauto. My experience using it has been limited, and I only used one box of it on a 25-yard target, didn't do any actual hunting of small game (or humans, LOL). Recoil is very light. What the other posters said about the effects of shooting someone with it makes sense.

I don't have any experience with inflatable boats, but they look fun.

Inflatable boats should work out fine in your sandy bottom location, Most have a hard plastic bottom and can take a little abuse, I'd stay away from shells that can be super sharp.
Net size for shrimp? Buy the larger squared size in a cast net as these sink faster and catch more shrimp,
Be aware the state itself may have size regulations and seasons on using a cast net.
Ours would be 10#s for bait daily in the off season.
25#s during shrimp season, Kinda tricky regulations to keep up with.
During SHTF all bets are off, You can sun dry shrimp for storage and consumption , I don't know the fine details anymore?

Subsonic .22 with a supressor, great for stray cats. Buddy had a ruger 10/22 takedown setup, it cycles great. Maybe because its supressed? I dont know.

the premium .12, .14 ea subsonic ammo helps alot. even with a .30 cal can the loudest thing is the bolt slamming closed. even with the can on the 3 prong adapter/flash hider rings like a tuning fork!
i found a 3dp thing to hold the bolt closed on a 10/22 but i have not printed it yet. you would have to cycle the bolt by hand and remove it every shot but im sure it will knock a few dbs off. my 10/22s cycle fine with or without the can.

If you can find it, Aguila SSS - " Sniper Sub Sonic" - with the heavy 60 grain bullet is very quiet, reasonably accurate and packs a punch. Mossad uses it for taking out bad actors in crowds. It is subsonic and has more drop, thus shorter range, but can be a good choice. Cycles in most .22 firearms. My Whitney Wolverine pistol really loves it. (y)

I second that assessment. Isn't actually as quiet as others i've shot out of a bolt action. My opinion is that the CCI Quiet is actually quieter but won't cycle in a semi-auto as it's only going just over 700 fps where the SSS is 925 fps if I remember the chrono numbers correctly. SSS did cycle in a Rem 597 and Ruger 10/22

What do you guys think about AK pistols as backpack/crossbody bag guns?

Advantages and disadvantages? (I know that AR-15 types are far more common in the US, but I train mostly with "AK types")
At least until you can reach your vehicle or home where a larger rifle is stored?
7.62x39 is very effective at short range

    Micro Draco is only 14.5'' long, fits in larger laptop bags;
Mini Draco is 17.5'' long, Arsenal SAM7K is 17.5-20'' long depending on the muzzle, Zastava M92 is 19.5'' long

If you prefer 5.56x45, the Arsenal SLR106, Zastava M85 and SIG SG553 (also AK-like) are 19.5'' long

Back in my early days, I was really enamored with the .30 Carbine Enforcer pistol and wanted that as a backpack/bugout gun. I don't think it's been manufactured for decades. Or a Paratrooper M1 Carbine. Every gun dealer I went to tried to tell me what a piece of crap the M1 Carbine was, the ineffectiveness of the round, blah, blah, blah. One old timer even told me a BS "war story" about this marine who shot a Japanese soldier five times with his carbine and the Jap pulled out his Luger (I think he meant Nambu) and shot the marine dead. Where did he shoot the Jap five times with .30 Carbine rounds? In the foot? I think they just wanted to sell me a more expensive weapon. Yes, it's not perfect, but I still like it for the same reason the troops in WW2 and Korea liked it: handy, lightweight compared to the M1 Garand. It was originally made to replace the .45 auto for rear area troops, officers, etc. and it's fine if you know its limitations.

I used to own a Universal branded .30 carbine. I would still have it if not for a guy that collected them offering me stupid money for mine because he didn't have a Universal in his collection. With a little ramp work mine shot flawlessly and was a lot of fun. It was indeed under powered but no doubt it would kill.

It depends upon a LOT of things…variables!

Each scenario/situation could be addressed differently. Some have no “wrong” answers because the firearm never gets used. Some have completely wrong answers because the firearm isnt capable of allowing the user to do the required task.

So it really comes down to an individual’s experience, capabilities and expectations.

So said, I may grab a sidearm and a longgun from the following list.
    .22 LR semiauto handgun
    .22 WMR revolver
    .357 revolver
    .357 carbine
    .22 semiauto rifle
    .22 WMR bolt action
    5.56 AR
    .308 bolt action
    12 ga pump

In a unique case, I may even grab two sidearms for concealability and no longgun.

    YMMV!
