Buying silver, where to start

Just ordered some more silver from APMEX, $1100 or 17 silver dollars (about 13 oz.) and I'm planning on buying additional ammo and food. Trying to finish my preps this year and then invest my SS checks in case there is a future.

 

Have you checked out SDBullion dot com and compared prices?

 

I just checked, and the prices appear to be about the same. I've been with AMPEX for about 10 years and I like them. I selected them at random online and have never been disappointed. Once, they made a mistake on an order, half of the coins in a roll were 90% silver and half weren't. I made a phone call and everything was made right.
That's why I have always checked rolls of coins for accuracy! If I have left the coins in the roll I would never have known.

 

SD bullion is good too.
I think they claim the highest payout when you sell to them.

 

Imo that's simply unacceptable for silver. I say wait till there's a 1 to 2 year low in the price and then buy. I want at least double that much silver for that much money. Assuming I buy silver again. I'm just going to wait for something to crash out or at least go into its low-normal range. Like slightly less than thousand dollar an ounce platinum, delivered.
Right now I say load up on ammo and gun related shit since almost everything is in stock and cheap.
Only over priced metal I'm stocking up on is lead at the high price of 80 to 90 cents per pound. I only plan on spending it at a rate 100 to 500 grains at a time.
But bullet molds are on sale pretty much everywhere.

 

Hopefully, I will never have to do that again. Back during the Great Recession, I had to sell most of my silver, all of my gold (I only had an ounce) and even some guns. Since then, I have changed my prepping goals; no gold (not really useful for day-to-day bartering) just silver and fewer less expensive guns.

 

Yeah I sold a semi auto Turkish shot gun during the ammo and gun panic. It was finicky with ammo that it would run. It's got a 2-3/4 chamber and needed really hot high brass shells to run somewhat reliably and had a fixed cylinder choke.
I didn't need it. I have my S12 with aftermarket choke and the Cobain special for my semi autos. The S12 will run all but the lightest trap shells and whatever the S12 won't run the 1400 will gladly gobble up.

 

Just saw an ad from Lear Capital that advised buying silver, claiming that it could go to $300 an ounce in the near future. I know, they are just trying to sell some silver, BUT a few years ago they were all saying that silver and gold prices could soar to the prices we have today and they were right, or maybe a broke clock is right twice a day. I'm not selling everything to buy silver, but I am sticking to my buying plan." I love it when a plan comes together", but first you gotta have a plan, and as I keep telling y'all, "I got me a plan"!

 

It will someday. Hopefully not for a long time. My bet is copper refiners will keep dumping silver on a cold market driving the price down.

 

So far so good. The price of silver is going down even with gulf War 11 going on. Copper price and Copper futures are up, silver futures are down.

 

I've been watching the silver ,, started to buy some earlier ,, but the spot price a was about 10+ bucks an Oz,,

 

Got a 1947 S dime back in change yesterday. The first one in years.

 

I've not seen any silver in circulation in years ,, my daughter said she got a silver dime a few months ago ,, about a yr or so ago ,, I took a few wheat pennies from the little " need a penny" tray ,,the threw in a nickel..

 

Some people are buying into this cashless society B.S. and using gramp's collection as regular change for goods and services.
Keep a sharp eye out on your change.

 

Recently, I took my own advice and bought a Silver/Gold Test Kit. That and a couple of books about coins should do me. Trust but only if you can verify! And always make sure the other guy knows that you can verify!

 

An outfit in town has a spectrum analizer that caution me on some jewelry and silver as well I suspected to be false. it was.
There are real advantages having a brick and mortar store in town that has the capability of testing things.

 

Silver just below 60 /oz
Gold just over 4 gs ,,,
Anyone guessing how much lower it may go ??

 

I can't predict nor know what the market is going to be doing.
BUT, I can tell you is I'm going to be a buyer of gold if it goes below 3600 and silver if it goes below 45
At that point I'll start dollar cost averaging again and picking up half ounces of gold (I know, it's better to buy full ounces but 2k is easier on my budget) and probably 10 ounce bars of silver. But I won't be dumping lots of dollars at a time .. well except for 1/2 ounce gold purchases, that will take me 6 weeks or more to save up for.

 

Silver has been low to no spot fees throughout most of its fall from the mid to high 70s. Last time I checked still in the high 60s with no spot fees mostly.
So it's probably going to keep moving down.
I'm watching palladium. In the $1,200 range it's entering the watch/buy range.
I can't keep doing all or even half silver. They'd be delivering my order in a brinks truck when I buy back in. Not very low key.
