Hello everyone! I have a question. I have searched on the Web and have been unable to find out if Prairie Gold or Golden 86 hard winter white wheat is a hybrid or not. I know if it is a hybrid, it will not produce true but revert to one of it's ancestors. Does anyone hear know or have you grown it yourselves?? I want to have enough put by to be able to grow it if necessary, and mill it for flour as needed. Thanks!
You will need a good deal of land to grow on and, the equipment to harvest.... But then, you could just do this.... you would need a yield large enough to provide flour for the entire year I would think... Growing Wheat of Your Own - Organic Gardening - MOTHER EARTH NEWS
Thanks for the lead, Dunerunner. Through the article on Mother Earth site, I traced a wheat called Sonora wheat which is an old, old variety. I am going to buy some to plant. But I am also still hunting for the info on White Hard Winter Wheat.
