Thompson Cigar has a special going on with 10 Rocky Patel cigars, aluminum travel case, torch lighter and cutter for $30 ($38 with shipping). I went to my cart and left the page up while looking up my login and a 10% window popped up so $35 total.

That's a really good deal! They just shipped my backorder today. Also, you know my situation, I would buy that if I needed it, in a heartbeat. You're getting the cigars for free at that price, or vice versa.

Although I still hold a soft spot for flavorful, sweet and savory cigars, these are four of my favorite medium to full bodied smokes. Spicy, peppery on the back end, bold and yet smooth cigars with plenty of flavor. Each of these are unique in different ways, and they are all very well made and come highly praised by many aficionados. Definitely more for the seasoned smoker and those who enjoy full flavor complexity with strength. With some age, a few of these may tone down in subtle ways, but more or less they will retain key attributes and depending upon your storage, a little increase in other aspects may be attained. All of these have been fulfilling right out of the box or with less than 6 months age in the humidor/coolidor.

:5s: rating at 5 stars for all of these. Shop around for the best prices, sometimes deals in 5 packs may appear and you could pay as little as $4 per stick, with retail prices usually not exceeding $10 on average.

My cigar journal for 2018 has been completed and I am starting a new journal. This is mainly for my personal account, but I decided to share this for those who may be interested. It's not too comprehensive, and it is a first 'edition', so to speak. I ranked my favorite 10 and use a personal rating for each cigar. I am attaching it here if you would like to download it in .pdf format. You can pick up the free .PDF reader here if you need it.

    Charter Oak
    (petite corona Connecticut)
    charter oak.
    Rating: :5s:

Usually sold out at many places, keep your eyes peeled for these little gems! Flavors of cashew nuts, floral notes, a creamy smoke, and smooth pepper on the back end, with an unfinished foot to the cigar makes it rather impressive. I have only ever smoked the Connecticut, which I found to be perfect. The only drawback is they are sometimes tough to find.

I'll cut and paste this here for those who may have missed it, and add an update.

I got two Don Rafael Maduro's in the last wonderful box of cigars.

I tested one and found that it was very interesting. Nice and soft, good moisture content. With the end snipped it I was surprised to find that it drew like a straw. I thought perhaps there was a crack in the wrapper but I found none. After lighting, it continued to burn for a bit... with a nice flame. I let it cool down until the smoke just slacked off, enjoyed a couple pleasant, flavorful puffs, and was rewarded with a substantial cloud of smoke. The volume of smoke could easily rival the clouds produced by 24 volt vapor systems.

The exceptionally light draw forgotten, I settled into a very enjoyable smoking experience. Marveling at the quantity of smoke produced by even a light puff. I was traveling, so I had to let the cigar go out twice, and only as it got toward the end did the draw become slightly more restricted.

I look forward to the second Don Rafael Maduro, and I'm curious to see if it has the same qualities.

Update: The second sample of the Don Rafael Maduro behaved exactly like the first. This is a really pleasant cigar, and the most entertaining I've ever sampled.

  9. I don't drink coffee or use tobacco products. But I heartily agree, fresh ground (un-brewed) coffee smells great. And I always liked walking into a tobacconist's shop. Great smells. My wife smoked (past tense, died of lung cancer on 5 Aug, 2017. My birthday.) Cigarettes don't smell good, but pipes and cigars are much less offensive.
