Wife sent me this link. It's all about control over the masses IMO. Court Rules Living ‘Off The Grid’ Is Illegal
(Iirc) they claimed she was using the sewage system, without paying for it in the form of "water and sewage" bill. This meant she was stealing services. That is why they forced the issue of having services hooked up, even if she didn't draw upon them. And it was to provide a backup system in case her system failed, or was not up to the task. (This was in lue of letting her die by her choices, if the heat or water failed).
I used to live there -Cape Coral, FL. Better off grid habitat in nearby Ft. Myers, to be honest. Money. The resale value of the property -which you don't own.
Her issue with the local .Gov, is that they Bill their Water, and Sewer, use based on the amount of Water, used on a single Bill.... so if she uses NO Water, but does use the Sewer System, then she is effectively getting Services without compensating the .GOV, for that service. I would think a compromise could be worked out, or forced on the .GOV by the Court.
In Orange Beach Al, the house is closed up. Water shut off to the house and no sewer usage since no one is there and we get charged the basic fee every month.
Yes, same with electric. You get charged for just having it live and active in case of need. Weather you use it or not.
It is a shame that we are getting taxed to death (sometimes multiple times on the same damn thing) and applied fee's at every turn you make while living....... something needs to change. Of course that change, will have a fee associated with it.
Yup. Every spring I turn off the gas to the furnace in the basement. I still pay the $40+ bill every month just for being alive hooked up to their service.
My face rite is earn money pay taxes. Manage the left over income from taxes well and pay more taxes on that income because you managed it well. And don't forget if it's income property you pay property tax and wage taxes for the property Manger in addition to social security for all. Js. It's endless
That's a pretty crazy ruling. Was there some kind of sewage problem emanating from her house that ushered this court case in, or is it merely the act of not being hooked up at all? It's almost too surreal.
She WAS hooked up to sewage, but not water, and you pay for sewage on your water bill. No bill= theft of services. (Which is like filling up someone else's dumpster that he has to pay to have dumped. You are stealing HIS service, because he has paid for it and can't use it, and you have paid nothing at all.) We all pay for the sewage we use, but she did not.
It all comes down to doing your research when planning to go off grid. There's places left where you can live pretty much as you wish. BUT its always best to look into zoning and regulations BEFORE buying land and building.
Way to many Folks do NOT do the "Due Diligence" Research that needs to be done to understand the AO they are moving into.... Some take the word of the Realtor, or a local Neighbor, and then get caught up in an Issue AFTER they plunk down their Cash... Some just do NOT think about these things until the "Bite them in the A$$" later...There are a whole raft of excuses, proffered, by those that get into Issues, after the Money has changed hands.... and it really all comes down to Lack of Research in Depth, Before hand... If one gets caught in an Issue, One didn't do enough Research, to dig up the Issue in the first place....
