Decadent Camp Coffee

I really like my hand crank coffee grinder that I use at home. Freshly ground coffee in a French press is really nice. But, my grinder has a wooden body and is relatively expensive, so I didn't want to take it camping where we get massive humidity and rain.

So what's a guy to do? Well, my camp kitchen box coffee hand grinder just arrived last night. It is metal, plastic and glass. And much cheaper. Perfect for car camping along with a stainless steel French press. It makes about a quart of coffee at a time. In other words, perfect for me and wifee.

But at camp, it will give four cups at a time, because we share. So while we have the initial coffee, more water be a boiling and and more coffee be a grinding. I look forward to trying it out on our next camping trip. Today and tomorrow will be getting the grind and proportions set up correctly.

The verdict from today... Yummy! But needs a little bit more coffee beans. And one slight adjustment for slightly coarser. I like my coffee strong.

We grind our beans before we camp and put them in zip lock bags. It does lose some freshness; however, it is quite good.
X2 and agreed a coarser grind is superior.

    Steeps the coffee.

The review is they work great and the coffee tastes good!! Not sure what else to tell you, @Ganado. Maybe ask your questions and I will try and answer.

I like glass better, but switched to steel after Mrs. Hanzo broke the last three glass ones. AND I won't have to worry about the steel one getting bashed about at camp. LOTS of kids running around. LOTS of wives... The guys seem to be most reverent about the coffee, from what I have observed.

@Hanzo. I LOVE THAT GRINDER. I thought it looked like mine. I have one for coffee and one for spices. The adjustable grind is awesome! From course to fine ground. It was tricky at 1st but now it's easy

Need to get one of those grinders for my hunting gear. Thanks for the link.

First use was grind a little and adjust, repeat as necessary. Once you got it where you want, no muss no fuss. I will say that this grinder is not as fast as the wooden based one. The in-kitchen one grinds 2-3 times faster. But costs way more.

Thanks for the links @Hanzo. Both are on my Santa list. Your wooden grinder looks very similar to the one my Grandmother used to have. I remember letting us grind coffee with it as kids.

    So comparing the two grinders...

The glass one for camping has three grinding blades and the wooden one has five and a more well made grinding funnel. That would explain the 2-3 times faster grinding.

Both serve their purpose well. Coffee tastes good coming out of both.
