Gotta ask, who pays the taxes on that land in Detroit?

In other words, you and I. Sad, tho' I can see the bennies of the gardens. Now were the produce be sold to repay a loan, I'm on board. Sharecropping, so to say, but you know where that would go.

Just went to look at the Ice Age Farmer wikli- his stuff still shows on a search, but all the links result in dead pages - he was completely de-platformed. Oddly, his You Tube channel is still up and running

Has some time this AM to root thru what might be left of the "Ice Age Farmer" cold weather gardening data.

To my surprise, his Facebook page is still live - Ice Age Farmer -- but it seems no updates since Feb 2020.

So the large library of cold wx gardening information/tips has gone to bit heaven....

Even in Siberia folks have gardens. Not for fun, but for food.

very much in the vein of old home movies, shows a large garden

Many in the old Soviet lived in large apt blocks. Dachas on the edge of town allowed them to raise fresh food. Today you see many of the elderly (babushkas) getting on the bus in the morning to ride out to their dachas to work the garden and harvest the day's food.
If the people are lucky - they will have a small cabin (summer house) on the dacha

I could not have a garden this year because of the deer and hogs. I counted 15 deer one evening in my back yard. I guess its time to start shooting them. Not too many years back one came upon my car port. My wife said the other evening the road was full of turkeys as she was driving in.

What is miss in all this is the low light problem. And ideas how to grow anything if something like "the year without summer" caused by a big volcano eruption.I presume that its not totally dark but enough for growing ? I cant find anything on light level needed just for growing things. And artificial lightning is a no no as your solar panels do give off nothing.

Forget the year with out summer, that's nothing.
536ad the year with a 2 and a half year long winter, then through about 550 they only had several good summers.
