Prayer, OK.....but about that Pledge thing.....you do realize you are pledging that the Declaration of Independence no longer applies, right ?

    ( "One nation, INDIVISIBLE...." )

See, the history of "the pledge" is it was written by a northern socialist preacher to force southerners to admit they were wrong to try to leave the union and set up a new nation....which is exactly what the colonies did to jolly ole England in the Declaration of Independence.....the Declaration declaring men have a RIGHT to form a govt that fits their needs if the old one doesn't do the job....

SO, what you are REALLY pledging is "we won't try THAT again"....and pledging you loyalty to a Union, that no matter HOW BAD IT SCREWS YOU, you won't use the Declaration option again, and try to opt out.......That, my friend, is what the pledge is really all about.

So, be careful what you pledge.....words do have meaning still, some places......

    Got Ya on that.

As much as we hate Washington, lost the "War" we still need to have some sort of reconization that we have a Nation that still mabey worth preserving, althought not in its current state.

Thank you for today's history lesson, did not know that. I had to look it up to see for myself.

It began as an intensive communing with salient points of our national history, from the Declaration of Independence onwards; with the makings of the Constitution...with the meaning of the Civil War; with the aspiration of the people...

The true reason for allegiance to the Flag is the 'republic for which it stands.' ...And what does that vast thing, the Republic mean? It is the concise political word for the Nation - the One Nation which the Civil War was fought to prove. To make that One Nation idea clear, we must specify that it is indivisible, as Webster and Lincoln used to repeat in their great speeches. And its future?

Interesting and informative points on the Pledge...

The term "state" ALSO neans "nation," however, with sovereignty implied; The Constitution ratified by the States delegates certain few enumerated powers to the central government, with everything else under the sun retained by the individual states/nations.

So. The two concepts may be may be thought of as complementary in creating a strong entity, instead of dichotomously tearing it apart [the USA, or more correctly, the u (united, lower case) SA], by strict application of the 10th Amendment... let Nancy Pelosi and that guesome-looking Waxman freak make all the laws they want for California, but when those dipwad laws not complying with the few enumerated powers reach the Texas border, they hit a brick wall, and are NOT applicable to Texas citizens.
