I have started construction on a new double rifle. The barrels will be chambered in .45-120. I am using a very nice old case-hardened shotgun breech that I picked up in Tulsa just for this project. The barrels will be delivered in about two weeks and the chamber reams will wait until I have completed the rib. I will be able to fabricate extractors to function with the cases. I do not know if silver solder will be strong enough to join the barrels to the rib; does anyone have any information on this?

Silver solder should do, but brazing would be better. Go with Silfos. Watch the heat carefully. So far as the breech goes, I think an upper lug would be a good thing. Another thing, shotguns tend to be slender in the wrist --

I don't hunt much; I like to build. The .45-120 has some serious loading capabilities for a strong gun.

The critical items are that they have individual extractors. The double gives the fastest follow-up shot of any type rifle, thats why they were popular for dangerous African game. The reason the side by side was popular was because an o/u has to open further to reload and that too was dangerous. I looked at several Merckels, Kreighoffs, and Hollands and realized that if I bought one of these, I'd have to sell my house.

I used to Read Capstick, even after everybody said he was a plagiaristic charlatan.

This Baikal Double barrel is a 45-70 rifle with open sights. The 12 gauge has been converted to the 45-70 government round. the Barrel is 20 3/4 inches. Bright blue finish and very nice wood with a metal butt pad. Here is an opportunity to own a very nice and accurate double rifle at a fraction of the cost of a Pedersoli. I have one presently available. These rifles are still very hard to get.

Beautiful. I love the side-by-sides whether they be double rifles or shotguns.

It IS all Capstick's fault. But I still couldn't afford a double even if I sold my collection of leather bound and autographed Capstick books.

Silver solder only!!!! for joining barrels!
I am redoing a set of Parker barrels now. If you want I can forward you a picture of a jig to hold them together and compress the ribs as the solder softens and allows the rib to fall.
Super cheap and super easy, and you probably got the stuff in your garage or maintenance area.
