Things tend to burn hotter if you add mechanically driven air . hotter still if you add oxygen.
The hotter you run the less emissions you get. Adding air speeds combustion, but most stoves can't handle these higher temperatures .
I got a stove with a melted grate and yoke some genius used coal. Though I have a grate in my cook stove fire box I don't use it I burn from the bottom box ,the wood last longer and with the configuration I use in the stove pipe i loose very little heat up the chimney .Cleaning the stove pipe every spring is something I can live with.
