if you are off grid or planning to be
how much energy would you need?

there's this solar/water box, but we are looking to help people in the US get off grid so trying to find out what is best. I attached some basic info...

Would you need more energy? maybe less?

would love to know what you think! we are trying to help people be independent and resilient

    @troybillett
You really should post up in the New Members forum, introduce yourself. After that, maybe things can smooth out.

Had a look at your pdf and website, it mentions starting a side hustle, and I've jumped to a conclusion about that. It's also a sales brochure.

You might do a bit of reading on this site and see what else is here. Plenty on the subject of energy and water, as you will find, and worth your time to evaluate the member base.

While you're reading, researching and posting to existing threads, your credibility can be better established.

Troy, we have seen folks jump in before. Some find the pool is MT, some find a refreshing soak.

    Would I? For what?

You say you are looking to help people.
So how would you suggest helping people?

There are a bunch of salesmen selling systems.

It's just all those hidden cost that always get in the way when the Government is around.

What Mr. Ghrit is sooooo much more diplomatic about wording - than I, is that, with this being your first post and all, it sure makes it appear as though you are just SPAMMING the site, without making a proper introduction first.

I mean, far be it for me to just call anyone out as being a SPAMMER. But, I will admit, as I previously stated, maybe it just appears that way.

    Rule #1.
Never, ever buy someones off grid kit.
Chances are about 0% it will be what you need. Also chances are very high it will be severely lacking some where usually the panels, charge controller, inverter, batteries, wiring or all of the above and very costly to upgrade, as in throw everything in the trash but maybe the panels and start over.

@oil pan 4, did you see the cost of one of these units? $28,000 USD!

Hmm. Thinking here. I live in a Third-World country. Maybe they will ship me one for free. Then, we can provide power and water for our neighbors. Just tryin' to do our part here.

Plus buying a 100% premade system is kind of the opposite of self sufficiency.

As pictured that doesn't look like any where near 3kw worth of panels.
To get an idea of panels needed to get 3.4kw you are looking at 10 panels that measure roughly 1 by 2 meters each. Totalling around 200 square feet.

Oh and conveniently no technical specifications on the panels, inverter, charge controller or batteries.
    And no backup generator.

The only kits I have bought from on line folks was a Radio Shack Capacitor Discharge Ignition Kit and a Dome Home.
Of course I went to the factory to review the Dome and Radio Shack was honest back in the 70s.

    Happy in both cases.

Unless I missed it somewhere along the way, I didn't see a link to a specifications sheet, anywhere on the site. That's what I wanted to see, as well.

BT, please correct me if I am wrong here. But, doesn't your home run off generator power all year long?

In the summer, it runs of the Canneries 5Megawatt Powerhouse... In the Fall, Winter, and Spring I run of my two 20Kw Gensets... Wind here is NOT reliable, Solar is Iffy, when you live in a Rain Forest... Hydro would work, which I am still not ready to do, quite yet...

Damn @ghrit that is the most mellow post I've ever seen you post when someone does an end run for sales. Nicely done!

I should have deleted his links, moved the post to someplace useful, pm'ed him with a slap above the ears, and handed out a warning as I often do. Well, when I'm the first to catch the post, that's what happens. More often other staffies get there first --
