This was about 20 minutes from my house. We drove back by 2 hours later and all 4 were still laying down in a field in the bottom of the valley. The last picture is just to prove that they were taken in the NW
Loved it! We were on our way up to a fire watch tower. 12 miles up a goat trail forest service road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just a few shots of the girls. The clouds rolled in and the view wasn't so great by the time we got there. Still a great roadtrip.
Very nice! Those look huge compared to our MI swamp donkeys! Nice captures too. Composure, focus, etc. Nice photos.
I've heard the area around Enumclaw, Wa has tons of those things. Only problem is some consider them to be "pets" and would have a hissy if you shot one too close to town.
Any of you heard about (small) herds of them in the North East, or even the (upper) South East US? I've been hearing rumors about them as far south as northern South Carolina, but haven't seen any myself. I'm in Virginia, but right near Washington, DC, so I wouldn't expect them here.
Check out the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation at rmef.org They have a great publication and always have articles about their progress in reintroducing elk to areas such as Virginia. Several eastern states have had real good success, and are starting to have hunting seasons for elk. Of course, it probably takes years to get drawn for the few licenses that are sold. Most places in Colorado (in the mountains anyway) it's about as easy to see elk as deer.
