    Gosnell's Success Has Liberals Reeling

    October 16, 2018

It was the little production that could. After years of battling Hollywood, Facebook, NPR, and even a crowdfunding site, Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer defied all odds on opening weekend. By Sunday, the film had climbed to number 10 on the box office charts -- despite a media bent on ignoring the movie and the real-life drama.

For the husband-and-wife team who fought to tell the story, the numbers don't lie. After last weekend, the film was number one on the indie film chart -- and despite debuting in just 673 theaters, brought in more than $1.2 million. Although some critics refused to screen the movie, the ones who did were overwhelmingly impressed. On Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates the scores of almost every review, Gosnell earned a score of 67 percent, beating out crowd-pleasers like last year's The Greatest Showman by 11 points. And it was an even bigger hit with audiences, who gave the film a 99-percent approval rating.

It's just too bad, CNS News points out, that so many media outlets seem "as uninterested in the film as they were when the actual Gosnell trial happened five years ago." In politics, co-producer Phelim McAleer said, "there's an equivalent term for this: voter suppression. It is a sad attempt to pretend our film isn't in theaters across America. But they can't ignore the box office numbers. We humbly thank all of our fans across the country for this great opening. The people have spoken."

If you've seen the movie or read people's accounts from the theaters -- which range from audiences sitting in silence well after the credits or joining hands for impromptu prayer -- you know what a difference the story is making. "This is not your typical pro-life movie. There's no heart-warming storyline about a challenging but ultimately successful adoption. There's no nervous single mother who sees an ultrasound and decides to leave the abortion clinic and raise her child against all odds. There is just horror, plain and simple." And yet, National Review's Alexandra DeSanctis goes on, "it's the most powerful kind of anti-abortion movie that could ever be made, because every minute of it... [is true]."

Do your part to spread the truth: buy a ticket. For a listing of theaters near you, click here. Or, to hear from the stars of Gosnell, like Dean Cain, watch this panel from VVS on the challenges of making a movie about the realities of abortion.

    also noticed this...

“The recent Gosnell movie has brought to the forefront the horrors of the abortion industry,” Burke said, adding:

Moreover, this disturbing case shows that babies continue to be born alive and then killed after attempted abortions, or are purposely delivered alive and then left to die.

We still have more to do to protect women and children from such horrific abuse. Measures such as the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act would provide criminal consequences for health care providers like Gosnell who violate current law and requires that proper medical care be given if a child is born alive.

Five years after Gosnell’s conviction, there is still work to be done to prevent against future abuse.

Searcy, the film’s director who is best known for acting roles in TV’s “Justified” and the miniseries “From the Earth to the Moon,” tweeted Monday: “If you want more movies that aren’t leftist Hollywood, you have to support them at the theaters.”

So, in essence this is a 'true life' horror movie, doing double duty as an anti abortion biopic.?

OldDude...methinks the suggestion, indicates that either one's pantaloons are in a high state of combustion, or that some self delusion is being manifested. To suggest that the film is "really not for or against (abortion)" is at odds with the rave reviews praising the film, one of which (you had posted in the OP) ( National Review's Alexandra DeSanctis goes on,"it's the most powerful kind of anti-abortion movie that could ever be made,")

indicates that the film is not a balanced documentary indicating that in a very high percentage of abortion clinics, abortions are conducted safely, conform to high standards of medical professional practice, and are appropriately supervised by properly accredited and competent public health inspection governance....

The film will undoubtedly be used as a tool, by anti abortion, religious social conservatives to further their anti abortion agenda.

The OP thread title is rather spurious also.
The film is a dramatisation...it is not an objective documentary made by investigative journalists. The best that can be said of the claim in the thread topic header, is that the film is based on fact, (but that some composite and some fictional characters, fictional dialogue and fictional plot elements have been interpolated into the story). In that sense it is not literally true, [every minute of it]. That is not to say that the elements of the film that are true, are not horrifying. Whether the fictional elements were incorporated as an expression of artistic license, or as technical tools of cinematography to move the story along; but another possibility is that there may be some noble lying Noble lie - Wikipedia going on too, to further an anti abortion agenda.

The movie's title, "Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer" is misleading also. Aficionado's of serial killer films are probably going to be a bit disappointed....Gosnell was convicted of, wait for it....three homicides, one manslaughter, and a number of offences relating to illegal drug distribution, and non compliance with health regulations and legislation. Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, are all comfortably way ahead of Gosnell in the serial murder stakes, except that they were not also abortionists. Again, that is not to minimise or trivialise the horrible things that Gosnell did do, and for some of which he was never convicted, just that a substantial number of 'pro life' advocates consider all pregnancy terminations as murders. "America's biggest serial killer", just underscores the sensationalism that the film is trading on.

I don't doubt that a "Gosnell clinic room" will end up in an evangelical Christian "hell House" Hell house - Wikipedia somewhere in the USA.

The irony is that this film, and the moral panic that it helps to generate, will encourage the kind of regressive legislative action by conservative governors and legislators, to make this kind of horror more likely, rather than less likely. The affluent, powerful and well connected will still be able to get a pregnancy termination regardless....just that the poor, powerless, desperate and vulnerable will be driven to use illicit abortion providers, with all of the risks that that entails....small price for some Christians' sense self righteousness I suppose.

    A different point of view....
As to me seeing the film...I am doubting that it will see much if any commercial screening in Australia. However, in the event that it does make it to a cinema nearby...I may buy a seat ticket to a different film at an adjoining multiplex cinema screen at the same session time as Gosnell, and then see the Gosnell film instead. The cinema operator will properly receive their revenue for screening films at their venue (including Gosnell...but the film promoters get no credit for my having filled a seat in front of their particular film. :sneaky:

what is meant by neither for nor against is pretty much true... it's actual aim... show the truth...

    show who did what...

    show how it was done...

    let people see...

that what ACTUALLY happened there resulting in people responding with anti abortion claims... pretty much stems from...

WHAT WAS DONE BY THE DOCTOR along with the situation such as bloody reused blankets and such...

you are aware that he used snips to cut the spinal cord/necks of babies that were born ALIVE... right?

IIRC in most U.S. states if the baby survives and exit the womb/birth canal they are consider live HUMANS?????

while I can see where you make your claim... IMHO you're stretching to make it... IF the Doctor... who is now serving PRISON time...

had the Dr. NOT done the things shown... he might not be in prison... he sniped HUNDREDS of live baby spinal cords...

so classing him as a serial killer is fairly accurate....

    as to abortion...

Dude can you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that NO BEING is present from the moment of conception on????

even the Dr. that originally testified at the roe. v wade hearing now says he lied... and has recanted...

prove no being is present... then we can talk further... otherwise your opinion is just that... an opinion...

if a being is present... then... murder has been committed... a being has been prevented from existence...

never had a chance... the term... is it really... regressive legislation?

really? you are then... positive... have no doubts whatsoever... that no being is present and it's only a lump of flesh?

    OH slightly off the subject...

the ISIS types use abortion as one of the key element in their hatred of the west...

they say... we kill/murder our own...

I do not believe in abortion in any shape or fashion. Any woman that does that for any reason is a murder also. My granddaughter adopted a black baby to keep its mother from doing that and my granddaughter is white. The baby boy is now four years old and doing great. Carson is his name,a joy to see and play with.
    Please,no more abortions.
