First of all, it was great to see Bear. Thanks for stopping by buddy. My wife scolded me for not taking a picture of you. ;)

The heavens opened up quite a bit today. But the weather gods gave us a clear window just long enough to set up our tents before coming down even harder.

It rained so hard, a river ran through it. Everything is swampy, even the higher ground where we set up.

After an especially large downpour, I discover our tent had some leaks. It has served us faithfully for 6-7 years without a leak. We have camped quite a bit with it in all kinds of weather. Bandaid was to throw an auscam hoochie over to keep us dry. Was gonna play around with it and set up various shelters. But this time, it will serve a higher purpose.

We are expecting very high winds. Got the wind warning this morning. So the tarp is attached with bungee loops and prussik knots.

Here are the mountains before sun down.

Mahalo cdnboy66. Hope it's taken care of. Been raining hard and I haven't gone into my tent yet. Fun in the rain and wet. I slipped going down a hill earlier. As I was going down, I was gonna take a seat and slide. But decided I wasn't ready for wet and muddy clothes yet so flipped over and slid down spider style. Just had muddy limbs. Clothes stayed clean and dry. My monkey is wet and muddy. She hasn't stopped running around. Been crouched over the fire for a while. She coaxed a couple of coals into a nice fire while in heavy rain. Good job! She's still working it and building it. I'm staying dry out of her way. Sorry for the rambling. Just vegging now after a big dinner.

Thanks buddy. Got everything staked and guyed. Even used some bungee on the hoochie.

The ground cloth and bathtub flooring still works like a champ and the hoochie has kept any leaks and drips out so far. All in all, I am liking it!

I was a Boy Scout until I was too old. My dad was active with the Scouts as well, and we had a lot of camping in all sorts of weather. Your camping trip brought back a few good memories.
    Thank you for that.
We nearly lost him to medical issues last year, but hunting, fishing, and camping were a main stay in his prime.

May i ask how large your auscam hoochie (tarp) is? We have targeted places that need to be camped and hiked this summer and I like the idea of something that will be more compact then the tarp we have.

Sound like you had a fun family weekend.

Hehehe. I am bad. Posting from camp. It's o dark 30 and the rain is still going and the winds have picked up.

Can you believe my wife has a trail race this morning. I think she said 8-10 miles. Gotta drop her off, get another couple of hours sleep, the get my monkey to her soccer game before we resume our camping.

The tarp is roughly 6x9. Lots of loops and tie outs.

Some spicy miso soup against the morning chill before dropping the wife off.

Was planning to do some morning tai chi and stuff, but didn't want to do it in the rain and wind. Doing it barefoot in the mud sounds awesome. Maybe if the rain lets up...

The view from the inside of the hoochie. Not only did it keep us dry, it made the tent darker for better sleeping.

Cold monkey took my wool cap and my jacket to wear over her stuff. And she was still cold.

But "hugs make warm" and so does a fire.

You bring back a memory, of a scout camp long ago.

My son woke me up at 3 a.m., and said "Dad, everything's wet"!

    ... and he was right.

We have had that happen to campers. With our old tent, been woken with drips. One of our friends had a lake in his tent.

What's camping without a camp fire?
