First HF antenna...

    Yes there is a limit. From wiki, if wiki is reliable.
    "The current specification is simply "4 watts output (AM) or 12 watts output (SSB)" as measured at the antenna connector on the back of the radio."
    Which, if the letter of the rules obtains, the usual ham rig is restricted to SSB on a CB frequency if one were to ignore the "law."
    At least the TS480 if not the others mentioned can adjust output power down to 5 watts.

    (But we still have not solved Bandit's antenna quandary ---)

    80 m dipole. Feed it with 450 ohm ladder line. Manual tuner w/ balun. U R done ;)

    Hmmm, a G5RV! Lossy but works.

    Close, but a g5rv is a bit shorter and relies on the feed line to make up the difference.

    Of course, there is the fan dipole design, too.
