A buddy gave me a new tactical scope and I am running out of rifles to put one on so I decided to put it on one of my Fn Fals. I have a beautiful STG58 built on a DSA receiver that I just ordered this mount for. It sells for much less than most of the Fal mounts that I have seen but it looks like it may be a winner.
The one major + for the AR rifles is that flat tops have the mounts built in. Wish I could say the same about the rings, Leupold Mk 4 Rings cost me $138.00 out of Midway. My local shop had a set of GG&G rings discounted to $98.00, went ahead and bought them, problem is they are 30mm and I have no scopes that size. Maybe it is time to start saving for a Night Force now.
I have several AR rifles, all have optics of one kind or another. They are fun little plinkers but I like more rifle than that when I play long distance. Yea, I know....I got one of those too and yes it is just as accurate and weighs less and came with green stamps and free coffee maker, but I like .308.
My AR's is the big sister AR10 type, I have two right now and have been offered Major bux when ever I take them to a gun show. There was a DPMS SASS rifle on Gunbroker last week that started at $1800.00 bids. It finally sold for $4300.00, and that was without a scope. Here is my version of a SASS, not done with it yet, but it has been the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned. I am also debating on getting a Rock 5R barrel installed on another upper chambered for a short mag. 30 Warning, gratuitous gun porn picture ahead.
Sea That mount will work great I have used them on my Fals. I currently have a DSA mount thats similar to that one and it works great. I like being able to get the bolt out while its on.
Thanks Quig; I was going to get the DSA mount until I saw this and the realities of my evolving economic picture wrote the check.
We used to have a top dust cover mount specially made for the L1A1 that had the SUIT or kite sight mounted on it, which made life simple, make the gun safe (unload), break the action open, remove what was mounted and replace with the required sighting system. Also the zeroing was done in as fewer rounds as possible. Having said that it looks okay. Tony
