from strike the root: http://www.strike-the-root.com/blog/archives/000882.html March 05, 2005 The War on Terror ramps up further! In Lexington, KY, WLEX Channel 18 is reporting that an 18-year-old high school kid named William Poole (George Rogers Clark High School in Clark County) is facing a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge -- for writing a short story for his English class about ZOMBIES. The kid was turned in to the cops by his GRANDPARENTS when they found the story in his journal. Detective Steven Caudill says, "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky." "It's a fake story," says William. "I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, [and] the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran [sic] by zombies." The kid's being held at the Clark County Detention Center. Watch out, Stephen King!!
OMG! Well, we've got to protect our country from those high school english lit students, ya know. To think... we're spending tax money harrassing this kid for nothing. That's one of the craziest f**in homeland insecurity stories I've heard yet. Hey, I've been to the jail in Lexington.... not as a prisoner though. The movie "Red Dawn" comes to mind, remember that one? I think they need to go arrest the cast.... or, hell, how many "teen scream" movies are set at a school? This is just NUTS.
I did some reading on this. Apparently this kid didn't write about zombies. What he did was try to recruit some other kids to take over the school. There was no zombie story. I was about to pull my hair out when I thought this kid was arrested for writing a story. I haven't seen the writings so I can't say what it is they found. I just thought I'd share that there is more to that story. Eventually they dropped the charges anyway.
Sounds reasonable that there may well be more to the story, especialy since his own grandparents turned him in. I figure that most folks old enouph to have grandkids in highschool are old enouph to have not been totaly brainwashed into stupidity so would GUESS there was likely something to at least give reason for pause more than just a kid who writes a lot doing a short story that happened to include a school setting.
When I was in high school I wrote a story for my creative writing class that was about .gov being over thrown and patriots fighting back. Glad as #&!! that was about 25 years ago!!!!!!! OGM
