SBA Small Business Administration... most other grants require you to be a 501(c)3... there are some agriculture grants that are available to farmers... Grant.gov has a look up function as well....

There are whole lot of grants available to farmers, markets, and organizations that get the grants for education, awareness, to study, to develop the capacity for. As far as Grant oversight it is largely non existent so long as the paperwork is pristine and tells a good story and covers the most up to date buzz words. SOrry Witch but those assholes got a educational grant using myself and my Farm without my knowledge or consent and claimed to have paid me $4,000 of the Grant Money. Only reason I ever found out about it was it triggered the IRS to Audit me and the farm. Consequences for their fraud there ZERO. Dispersing grant funds to non existent farms or defunct farms ZERO consequences. I got my hands on one of their closed door Board meeting minutes where they talk about using Grant Funds to entice and incentivize the Thunder 5 Ranch and other "Non Pliable" farms to support and join their organization. Or we have $40,000 left from this grant that we can do whatever we want to with. Or how they count market traffic by averaging every visitor up by 10.......... IE 1 person counts as 10. Bigger Grant Opportunities with bigger traffic numbers. Turned that over to the OIG and Shimkus and Bost consequences ZERO. Except I was offered a position with the USDA as a Grant Reviewer. Hate knock your job but you know as well as I do that the Grant gig is as dirty as they come and yeah all those consequences are written out and rarely applied. I was actually surprised to see a NY AG refer to the Grant Culture as a Culture of Corruption.

It isn't limited to grants, there is a whole culture based on getting something for nothing from both public and private sources, good example is Harvard and its priority enrollment of black students. With the priorities they used about 12 % of their students were black, if they were required to have the same standards as the whites, it would be less than 1 %. Easier to blame rich people trying to get their kids in and taking spaces from the more deserving than blacks displacing much higher qualified whites. Between the requirements for 'DISCRIMINATION SPECIALISTS" and women's studies, etc, I don't know what we will do to finance or to use the graduates from our higher ed system. Had grant to study rice growing in Vietnam back in the day, came with a free flack jacket and helicopter flights to the delta, and my darling school took 40 % of the grant for "administrative support" and wouldn't let me share an office as a place to store my data. It is and always has been a culture of corruption, almost as bad as the Bureau of the Interior and its handling of the Indian tribal money, there are no records so no one knows how much was stolen. The bureaucrats can only exist if they have a clients to support them and for them to provide a service to. Agricultural inspections, FAA certification, school loans, drug testing, etc, all have become massive con games that are controlled by small groups of those that they are supposed to be monitoring and they have the ability to use their power and grants to reward those that play well with them.

Thanks on the freezer alarms, sounds handy for greenhouse if it could be used to send to a remote alarm. Stinky freezer is least of my worries, but am playing with Raspberry pi for remote sensing. If heaters fail at just the wrong time in spring, can lose all your seedlings, in the fall all your tomato and peppers, if leak in hydro system, can run watering tank dry and lose plants on that system in a day or so, less in some systems, sump pump fails can lose lots of things in basement, don't really want to test out seals in buckets or ammo cans or replace furnace, if attic fan fails, temp in attic can get into the 120 + range and don't really like that for storage, fan cools it down 30 degrees some days. Then there are gate monitors, perimeter alerts, game cameras, the list goes on and while I hate to pay a couple hundred for a "commercial" greenhouse monitor, how much do I save if I buy a ten dollar e-bay one and it doesn't work when I need it and I lose what it is protecting.

@duane we can build ya something like that (y) (y)

it will not be cheap but if we can use 2 Pi systems or 2 Pi-like systems or 1 Pi and 1 other system, that will provide redundancy and should be reasonably reliable. :) :)

Thanks for the offer, but so far the challenge of playing with the raspberry pi and such has actually been more fun than the actual use I get out of it. I doubt if I save anything on the things I grow in the greenhouse, but I love playing with different systems and different feeding systems. I have just about given up on the present mass media, cocky 17 year olds and AOC, or people attacking them, world wide hysteria about 50 moslem deaths and total ignoring 100 + christian deaths in Nigeria by Islamists the same week, I now find I get more enjoyment out of trying to make a 1 wire multiple temp sensor hookup to a rp for my greenhouse than raising my blood pressure and watching the news. Am finding out that computers are like salted peanuts when you are having a beer, hard to not reach for just one more thing. Was into computers in DOS age, Windows just about drove me out of them, played a bit with the stamps and such, but having the inputs and outputs as well as the simple programming and all the bells and whistles has sucked me into the raspberries.
