So I tend to be very hard on things that are attached to me. Any jewelry, watches, clothing, etc all get but through a rough and usually short life.
After my oh say 5th or 6th Ironman by timex watch failed for the 3rd time, I decided to go another route. I just picked up a Casio G-Shock. The main reason I picked the G-Shock is because I have read/heard that they are as close to bomb proof as you can get. Well we are going to see about that.
I picked up the GD-100-B. It is a digital only watch with a negative face, meaning that the text is lighter than the background. This doesnt seem to bother me much during normal use and the backlight lights up the entire screen increasing the contrast.
I picked the somewhat basic version that comes with a few (5?) alarms and stop watch, timer, dual timezone, blah blah.

The one thing I am kinda worried about is the band. I have never been a fan of the rubbery/plastic bands although this one isnt too bad. I have already sourced where to get alternative after market bands.

Well now that I have it we will have to see if it holds up. Seems pretty solid so far. Only time in the field will tell.

    Anyone else wearing a gshock?

Have had G-Shocks since the early 80's, only on my second one and the bands are the weakest link.

Mountainman is right. The watch will outlive the band.

Twelve years in the infantry with one, from woods through deserts and back. It still works good but I up graded to one with a better back light.

In my opinion, there has never been a better watch. I wear a G Shock every day of my life. On the farm here it gets the heck beat out of it, and never a problem. I like the rubber/plastic band as it cleans up in a hurry. Just hose it down and go again. Good tough watch.

Like the rest here, I started wearing a G-Shock in the 80's in ROTC. The battery had to be changed every 7 years or so. The bands are only good for about 5-6 years. I finally broke down and bought a whole new unit yesterday. Figure it'll last longer than I will.

Yea so far its doing pretty well.
No failures and even with the welding, hammering, shooting etc that i have been doing no problems.
I could see how the band would fail under the welding sparks though

Have worn my G shock since 1994. Only change has been installing a paracord band my wife made me...runs like a champ. I own other pieces but that one still works and has been with me through floods, fights and lots of crappy weather

I used a G-Shock while I was in the Infantry for 10 years of active duty. It wasn't until I got out and was bluff diving that water leaked in when a push button came out.

I bought two new ones on clearance for $18 apiece at JCPenny's when I signed back up to go to Iraq. Ended up giving one to our squad leader since his haji special couldn't keep time work a crap. I did have to replace the band after a few years with the first one and the band on the one I gave away broke almost immediatly.
