Does anyone know of any vendor who carries/manufactures gluten-free survival foods? Possibly something along the lines as Mountain House freeze-dried #10 cans or even MRE's? Something a bit more healthy that won't make gluten intolerant family members sick during an emergency...
A few manufacturers have them... Best Value Food Storage Problem is, many individuals who suffer from celiac also suffer from lactose intolerance. Trying to find survival foods that are both gluten and lactose free is pretty much impossible. My wife has both issues. So we're drying and preserving our own.
Yes, Mountain House. You can find the complete list of ingredients for each of their products on the net and there are plenty with no wheat.
I wrote a review on this food Review- Valley Food Storage | Survival Forums . They have GF entrees. Good luck if you find more then what we have listed, please make sure to share anything you discover.
Peanut butter. Whole-wheat crackers. Nuts and trail mixes. Cereal. Granola bars and power bars. Dried fruits, such as apricots and raisins. Canned soups. These are the gluten free survival foods.
Emergency Essentials has a GF section, I've got some of their stuff squirreled away. Wife is gluten intolerant, I'm low carb makes for a terrible combination when it comes to prepping. Nope, whole wheat crackers are made from wheat and are loaded with gluten. Cereal and granola/power bars - gotta read the allergen section carefully and check the ingredients. Canned soups are tricky, many have wheat added as a thickener, especially the "cream of" styles. Hell, even "fresh potato salad" in the stores has wheat (gluten) in them. Forget about pringles chips, they are made with wheat too. My wife went through a lot of stomach pain when we were trying to figure out what was happening. Dr's just wanted to push meds to mask the pain. We started an elimination diet and figure out it was gluten, then did some "blind" tests where I cooked but did not tell her if I added wheat/flour to the meal. Kicker was when she ate pringles chips thinking they were "potato chips", well, they are but they have added flour, and that messed her up for a couple of days. Good luck.
