How much is your budget for a knife, and what is the primary purpose. Look at the Spyderco Endura for a good ecomomical, but still high performing knife.
Need to know what you want to spend - if you want the best get Strider. Then get Emerson, then Benchmade. Strider SMF is $475, Emerson waved CQC-8 was over $200 and the Commander is around $150. Under that look at Buck/Strider, CRKT, Spyderco - lots of good knives out there.
I think the SMF is Gen 2 and the SNG is Gen 6. Or maybe it's the udder way around. I've been carrying the SNG alot - great size for pocket carry.
I carry a Benchmade with 5" blade and thumb hole for opening, have had it for 10 years now, not a problem out of it, use it for everything.
